Why is the eating of pork forbidden in Islam?

Friend MO,

Sorry, Followers of sanatan dharma have nothing against pork as such but the disallow COWS or beef mainly as it gives milk which is the basic food for small children and also milk has the most ingredients present in it which is necessary for sustenance of life i.e. people can survive and live healthily just on milk alone.

For Christians , have no idea but so far all the Christians have known all eats beef and pork. [studied in a catholic missionary school and college].
Once again please note that it is a personal opinion only.

you should get your nose checked.

You appear to making things *personal*; as otherwise if someone can smell something from miles away one should feel pleased that his sense of smell beats every other human on that score and should get a prize or at least few *frubals*.

Apart form the disease potential especially worms, pig tastes much like human flesh, if you like pork you might like adding the cannibalistic alternative to the menu. I am sure this is anti social, hence don't eat pork.

In Islam they are only permitted to eat fish, birds and beasts with cloven hoofs, goats, sheep, cows etc except pigs. Which is rather silly because this means they cannot eat sensible meats such as Kangaroo. Stupid people.

Kangaroos are not available in the arabian desert, if it would have been found there, am sure it would have been on their menu.
Meaning to state, RELIGION is a WAY of life and that depends on not only spiritual aspects of life but physical aspects like health too and so according to the local availability, hygiene etc that the menu of the region develops.

we only eat land animals that do not eat meat excluding the pig and we eat all sea animals appart from the ones that eat humans (sharks and killer whales i think among other similar animals). who said we can't eat kangaroo?

long time no chat

I believe it is "Cloven hoofed animals only" written in the koran, where I don't know, my Pakistani Muslim mate told me about it.

yeah it's been a while.

i too think that the quran does have a verse that says something like that, but it doesn't limit it only to such animals, we can eat birds too eg. chickens, ducks, turkey etc etc. we are allowed to eat only herbivor land animals and i think all sea animals appart from sharks and killer whales am not too sure though, because there is a verse in the quran that speaks about the water creatures and i can't remember if it says all sea creatures are allowed. if it does say that then that includes sharks and everything else.

Would someone please be so kind as to post the verse(s) that explain why Muslims are not allowed to eat pork?

the quran doesn't say why it is forbiden. it only says it is forbiden. bust science on the other hand has proven why people should refrain from eating it another miracle you could say. does that answer you?

Yes, it means that Allah gave the order to not eat pork with out any explanation and that now people are trying to justify that order.
Or pretty much what I have been saying all along.....

well since Allah is the Knower of the future and the past, it would be logical to say that he knew very well why he forbade it there may be a hadith or ore that speak why it is forbiden but have not beeninterested much on the topic to have come across such hadith, as a child though i have been told that there are hadith that say the pig is the most filthy animal. but then again you don't believe in god, so if i was to argue with you about this it would be like trying to push a wall.

there is no reason to justify any order, the order has already been justified. i nor any muslim do not need any justification or explanation why it is forbiden, it is you in the other hand who are a witness to a great miracle and yet you make it look as though it is nothing. i personally do not know what to say to that.
