Why people are defined according to their sexual behaviour

FearGod

Why people are called homosexuals and hetrosexuals...etc.?

Why not just male and female.

sexual feelings is a personal mood which has nothing to do with the physical body.

What do you think ?

Because they are completely orthogonal? Sexual orientation, romantic orientation, physical sex and gender identification are all disconnected from one another. It is not possibly to definitely infer from any of these categories where the person lies in the others.

They are called homosexuals when they feel attracted to the same gender, and heterosexuals when they are attracted to the opposite gender.

It is an useful distinction.

Especially when choosing room mates at camp. Lousy heteros are ruining my life!

What it is useful for.it just makes more division between people according to their feelings
similar to the way religion divide people according to their faith and religion.

Hope i aint trolling here. ;)
Just kidding. :)

Honestly, I think it would be great if instead of rigid ideas of that you are either gay or hetro or whatever we would realize that sexuality is more complex then that. That we accept that only love matters. But the world is more complex then that and these terms are useful.

What it is useful for.

For differentiating people according to their feelings and personal inclinations, which is by itself convenient in dealing with them, their expectations and hopes, and even to actually respecting them.

I just don't see how that could be. Acknowledging how people are and feel is hardly divisive.

1) Sexual attraction isn't just about "personal mood".

2) Not everyone is clearly divided into Male or Female either biologically or behaviorally.

People create definitions for everything. But the obsession with sexual orientation stems from the fact that people are discriminated against based on their sexual orientation. If the world was more liberated, people wouldn't care to define themselves based on these things.

sexual feelings is a personal mood which has nothing to do with the physical body.

I think it has everything to do with the physical body. Our sexuality is a product of our biological make-up. It is impermanent, leaving us when we leave this body.

The jury's still out, but scientific research is tending toward a physical basis for sexual orientation. They think it has to something do with biochemicals the fetus receives in utero. The implications of this are quite far-reaching; for example, if queers are indeed "born that way" then gay rights may well fall under the larger human rights umbrella.

On the other hand, if homosexuality and other deviant sexual behaviors are the result of choice, or choice flavored by environmental factors but choice none the less, no law can compel anyone to give assent to those behaviors. They can draft hate-crime laws, sure, but it becomes much harder to push a social agenda based on toleration of lifestyle choices rather than civil rights. Perhaps the greatest thing to happen to the "gay community" will be genetic proof that they are what they are and then they'll finally start to get the universal rights they feel they deserve.

If it really is a matter of mood to you, you should consider the possibility that you might be bisexual. That is to say, for most people, sexual orientation is decidedly not a matter of mood. They simply do not get out of bed in the morning thinking, "Which sex shall I be attracted to today".

i see that sexual attraction and orientation aren't well undersood.

Why one person may favor a girl or a boy or both.

What we call a bisexual is a good example that it is kind of a mood, since they can
have similar attraction for both.

There is something vague which is implanted in our minds.

Some people feel nausea if they smelt or saw an egg and other will react the same
for fish or other kind of foods whereas some others can eat anything.

One known example is the effect of lemon on our brains (conditional reflux)

Maybe there is a language barrier? A few bisexuals may well have attractions that change in a mood-like way, but for most people (bisexuals included if I am not mistaken) attraction is a bit more predictable than that.

Moods are expected to change for no apparent reason, due to just the passage of time. That is not how human sexual attraction usually works.

By our biology.
There are measurable physiological variations between people of different sexual orientations and gender expressions.

It's only vague to you because you don't seem to have done any research on the biology of the situation.

Once again, biology plays a key role in all that.

I for example, have a mutation that means that I can't enjoy the taste of Cilantro. It is utterly revolting to me (tastes like moldy soap).

This isn't something just in my mind that I made up. It's a legitimate physiological response due to a mutation in my taste receptors.

Why are people called Christian or Muslim. Why are they called Sunnis and Shiites.
Human beings are complex creatures who have individual and social levels and layers. When we wish to discuss various issues concerning human beings, in this case sexual orientation, it is appropriate to use such definitions.

Sex might have to do with personal mood, and even that is a huge oversimplification. Sexual orientation has nothing to do with mood, it has to do with identity and physiology.

I remember a time when I wish it was as easy as a mood.

There I'd be in dance class in NYC, stretching and getting ready for class when BAM! in walks a super gorgeous woman who I can't stop thinking about afterward, or who gets my heart racing when we meander closer to each other for center floor training.

Or, I'd be in church thinking that I got this same sex attraction cured, and then BAM! who sits next to me but a super gorgeous woman and I just can't stop smiling all through the entire service.

Seriously, those are just a couple of examples. My husband is just now starting to understand that when he looks at women on TV, that if I'm attracted to them too I'll join in with the ogling, but if I'm not attracted to them like he is I'll shrug my shoulders - simply because I'm not attracted to them.

He used to ask why as a bi woman why I wasn't seeing these women as attractive too, and he didn't understand for the longest time - well, who does in this culture when you get women who are "bi for guys" - that there are traits that turn me off in women AND men. But that there are traits that I find absolutely stunning in men and women that are completely and totally independent of what anybody else thinks.

A revolting ode to the decay of western civilization

Such lusting within we should smirch.
But what is the cause of this lurch?
Why do you like dames?
Could video games
be causing it? No...it's the church!

Note: That you should suffer 2 limericks in a row is just pure chance.
(No stalking involved.) Sometimes the topic & a trigger word (eg, "church") can cause
a mental paroxysm, & out comes a limerick. I think it's related to Tourette Syndrom.
Just thank your lucky stars that "mood", "lewd" & "dude" weren't limerickagenic this time.

I think you should do more research on this.

Reason, and reason again
Mood does depend on physical self. Depression results from a chemical imbalance in the mind. This can be a product of circumstances, but it's still physical.

Sexual appeal isn't as fluid as mood. It is adaptable, but not interchangeable like clothing. I'm a heterosexual. I can pick out men who are attractive, but I have absolutely no desire to pursue a sexual encounter with them.

It would probably help if a lesbian woman told me she was lesbian while I'm trying to woo her.

Indeed, it would be a little awkward to discuss it in the midst of the wooing.
