Why should cats be allowed to run free to kill birds and crap on my garden?

You totally misunderstand the situation.
It's their garden....not yours.
You should feel grateful that they let you maintain it for them.

When I read your post, I thought... "A person who gets it."

So you can understand my shock when I then saw who posted the statement.

Well it’s cold atm, let’s see how the anti cat smelly stuff goes first,if there are no more presents all good but a good soak always works best imo.

You can buy ultrasonic cat repellents for not much money, i believe they do work and will keep you toilet garden cat free while the batteries last

Did you know that cats have a special organ that
creates a quantum-bifamulated amulitic Lorentz
field that saps energy in their surroundings. This
depletes batteries pretty quickly.
Where do you think Gene Roddenberry got the
idea for energy damping fields in Star Trek?

Is that so??? Very interesting, far more useful than i thought, battery manufacturers must be the ones releasing all these stray cats

Cats control the battery manufacturers.
Consider....
94.7% of all stockholders & managers of battery
companies have cats in their house & gardens.
The fools...they think that they own the cats.

Definitely fools if they think they own the cats, i think the idea is shocking.

Pets should be kept in the house, yard, or on a leash.
Feral domestic animals should be rounded up and eliminated. They are a serious form of bio-pollution.

Feral cats are a plauge in Australia, especially in the outback where I live.

They do not use water guns up here.

That's a different story - it's about how people have upset the balance of nature.
"Pets" are the result of our deliberately screwing with the natural order. Which is why the results should remain as pets, only. And the natural order otherwise protected.

I was an animal control officer at one time in my life.

It is pet owners that upset the balance of nature. There is not a lot of realy good pet owners.

If a person does not want a cat, or a dog, then why is there one in their yard? Why are they blamed for not wanting to clean up after someone else's pet?

My wife has Hens and their chickens, who are allowed the use of the yard are preyed upon by domestic and feral cats as are our native lizard and bird populations.

Using a water gun is not a bad move, but cats are sneaky, if the owner is not looking after them, keeping them contained within their property they, they will be back all hours of the night.
