Why should husband and wife/wives own property jointly?

You say that like it's a fact or something concrete.
It's only a perspective, which depends upon one's political leanings.

Perhaps I should say instead that an insect colony should not be the ideal for human society to aspire to.

I edited my post.
I am not at all sympathetic to any problem a man brings upon himself by collecting spouses.

While I have no inherent problem with polyamory I do think that if one is to be in a relationship where they want more than one partner that the partner/s they already have should be equally as interested in such a relationship. Also, everything should be split equally between all of them in that case.

Sometimes or even often while a discussion is proceeding reasonably, an issue comes in between that could derail the discussion.
This happened with the thread "Quran and women", and the issue that came in between is jointly owning the property/ies by husband and wife/wives. I want that we should discuss the rationale of owning the property/ies jointly by husband and wife/wives separately here.
Everybody and anybody could join the discussion.

Because a marriage is supposed to be a partnership? Isn't most of the property (car, house, etc.) shared by the whole family anyway? Really, what's the issue? If property shouldn't be jointly owned, who should own what, and why?

Each of them owns half the total property.

ETA I mean each of the wives. The husband brought all that on himself.
I don't get you what I have coloured in magenta.
What is the share of the husband and every one of the four wives?
What is the share of the husband?
What is the share of each of the four wives?

Do you think the man is better than the women and their owner? Then you have your answer.

If you are in a relationship based on love the answer is different.

Why would it be anything other than divided by the number of people in the polygamous marriage?

Each person someone marries owns everything in common with them. If a man marries four women he owes them more than he owns.
Polygamy is a primitive form of marriage. Baboons do that. We humans should know better.

Not really, I was trying to make a point by expanding the conversation, whereas you brought up a more or less irrelevant fact.

I thought it was rather clear that I was comparing the notion of a society where nothing is owned and everything is shared to an insect colony. I don't see how the point could be lost on anyone.

The reason is that if a wife chooses to stay at home and raise children, giving up progressing her career, the government has an interest in protecting the wife financially, should the husband be viloent, adulterous, run away with another girl or just a deadbeat in general.
