They don't "suddenly disappear." They decline and fade, and tend to linger around for even longer always a shadow of their former self (such as the Roman and Mayan empires).

Because there is no "higher state" in evolution. We'll evolve into whatever it is we evolve into. With medical advances, it could be considered that we are "de-evolving" as nature has been removed from natural selection and those who previously wouldn't have survived are passing their genes on. But healing and medicine have always been with us, and it's advanced very far and rapidly over the past century. We are also way more sedentary today and much less fit because we have jobs sitting on our *** and then we go home to sit our *** down in front of the telly. Technology in general has greatly improved our lives, but it's also made us lazy.
That is why there is no "higher state." Is being human not good enough for you? Is being alive not wonderful enough? Is the universe not awe inspiring enough?

Such anthropocentrism is folly and can only be thought of the by the creature thinking it superior. A shark would laugh at our idea of "superiority" and have us for a snack. So would a bear, but they don't tend to eat people or be much for confrontation. All life is related and connected, and all creatures have their strengths and weaknesses.

If turtles started wearing suits and hold canes next week I am sure scientists would be baffled and say that it was a miraculous display of natures evolution.

Its false to narrow your thinking to which display of qualities constitutes it for an evolutionary process. For instant a spontaneous growth of a 6th finger or a set of wings would definitely be evolutionary. But if the mind does this it is not noticed? If the mind improves the conditions in which its host lives than is that not an evolutionary human achievement? If the mind can now compared to the past rationalize and understand phenomena that is beyond the scope of past generations is that not an evolutionary achievement?

If man can transcend himself by applying his mind is that not an achievement? He will have to do it collectively because 1 man is insignificant.

It could have been done already and we are just a spawning ground for the elites who has technologically evolved off our planet. Would explain the frequent case of Ufos in the sky and this talk of secret societies.
