Sports as soft porn....ew.
Reminds me of a pre-Olympics warmup match between the US and France. The French girls, and they all were girls, were doing obvious stripper moves The announcers were having a difficult time trying to sound non-judgmental. The next day at my work I was going to ask if there was something wrong with me when a female employee went into a rant about that very meet. The French team did not do those moves in the Olympics.

I've always thought it odd that female athletes, eg, gymnastics, beach
volleyball wear such skimpy outfits. I'm not complaining, mind you.
But why such revealing garb so prone to entertaining malfunction?
Why would they want this?

Now I hear in the news that some are moving towards
less revealing clothing...hopefully more comfortable too.
Is This the End of the Gymnastics Leotard?

It's still perhaps TMI, but it's an improvement....

Except for Beach Volleyball, sportswear is practical. In high cardio sports, you want to have as little fabric as possible for maximum heat dissipation.

And yet the male gymnasts are modestly clothed.
Same in track...men wear shorts...women wear bikini bottoms.

In my gym days(pre Covid), I always found it easiest for workout to find the loosest fitting clothes I could (other than in the pool, of course). But, I was far from competitive and my main goal was simply just to get moving.

I think this is probably all down to style trends. There may not be a practical reason why there's such a difference between the male and female uniforms.

It isn't how skimpy the clothing is that bothers me. I just can never find anything in my size.

I guess it just depends on the sport. It's interesting that baseball uniforms haven't changed much over the years. Women's softball uniforms are about the same. And men's and women's basketball uniforms are also similar. Although as I recall in my school gym class, it was only the boys' classes who did "shirts and skins."

Football uniforms include shoulder pads, helmets and other protections. Hockey uniforms are similar. Goalies wear even more padding. I don't know if it's very comfortable, but it's better to have it when a hockey puck comes at you at 120 mph (193 kph).

Just out of curiosity (since we don’t really have the sport here) why is the women’s equivalent of Baseball called Softball? Is there a difference? Do they literally use a softer ball?

Literally all I wear is athleisure tracks :D

The men's don't look so uncomfortable. But the women's.... well, maybe I'm strange, but I don't like something clinging to every crevice every time I move.

Try bigger sizes...they have those threads to tighten them anyway.

Eh, I'll stick with what I've got.

I tend to either completely dress up... or go in pajamas. I don't have much for in between.

I think the pajamas is a local thing. I don't see others do this anywhere else, and transplants generally refuse to participate.

It's actually two different sports, although similar. The softball is larger and slightly softer. Men also play softball. I had a friend from work who played in a local softball league.

Baseballs are smaller and harder. There are girls who play baseball in Little League, so I don't know if there's any particular reason they can't play baseball at the high school or college level. That is, I don't know if there's any legal prohibition or rule against it.

Of course, never give up the pajamas. :raisedhands:

Men have stuff that needs to stay in place more so than women do. They can get away with the skimpy shorts. Men, not so much:eek:

Track and field is very competitive and there are no judges that can affect the clothing one chooses. That is not the case in gymnastics. I am betting that women wear the skimpy shorts because they feel that it helps their speed. But if they want to wear more I am not going to oppose it.

Lol this reminded me of a “wardrobe malfunction” incident I saw as a kid. I think it was like a televised AFL match, could be misremembering. Anyway I guess the elastic in a player’s shorts weren’t “up to the task.”
They were running at full speed and at some point their shorts lagged behind. Poor ******* tripped and the commentators couldn’t stop laughing.

Yah... Have you ever smelled post workout synthetic material? It's worse than any gym sock known to man... There's a reason Under Armour treats their materials with anti-stink chemicals.
I haven't been to a gym since....uh....I don't remember that far back.
