XBOX360 vs Playstation 3

It's really funny how completelly different europeans and americans work.(*) As far as I understand americans have more trouble spending money on gaming. They rent, borrow and need backward compatibillity. europeans, the ones I know that is, only have new games, don't borrow that much and to be honest, I think that now the backward compatibillity won't work either anymore.
And then europeans pay more than americans per game, download or console as well. :(

* Notice that I base this only on a small percentage of gamers so these statistics can be way off :p

I have never used the BlueRay feature (I do not have the TV or the connection for it) but someday I would like to see what all the excitement is about. I also miss borrowing games. When I owned my PS2 I would say that I borrowed a good portion of friend’s games and solved them (never turn down a friends offer to borrow a game that you always wanted to play and solve). I would usually get it back to them within the month. But unfortunately I do not know anyone who has a PS3 and I no longer keep in touch with my gaming friends. Another regret that I have with the PS3 is that if you have a car adapter with an AC plug, the PS3 doesn’t work (like a hairdryer or a microwave). My car’s DVD player sits in the dash. For those long car trips I have mrscardero drive while I sit in the back seat (tinted windows) playing PS2. I clocked in a lot of hours of Odin Sphere that way when we went on our trip to Chicago.

This must be the first time I hear of such a thing
How can a stable amount of space ever be sufficient for a growing online database?

I mean, I started with the 20 Gb disc, I moved up to the 120 Gb disc and I am allready bothered that the 360 hasn't got any larger discs..
Aren't' they coming out with external hard drives?

The external Hd's can be used for music and movies. I use my computer for that.
The internal drive is for demo's, xbox movies and the big consumer: games themselves. I know you don't have to install on my HD, but I also know I can... so I will..

PCs > Consoles.

In what regard? I find consoles easier to use, and I don't have to worry about the hardware of my console if I wish to play a game - all I need to do is to ensure that the game I have is for the console I own. And setting up peripherals is far easier, too.

I also enjoy only having to upgrade every five years to play the newest and shiniest games, compared to a computer.

Computers have their pluses, including being able to play quite complex games with ease (strategy games) but consoles are good in their own way, too.

Some say it's like comparing apples to apples....

I currently have two Xbox's. One is in my son's room. He's coo coo for that thing. The other is in mine. My wife wanted it for her birthday present. We had the first gen Xbox...(you know) the black and green one. It was decent...but then we traded up to the 360 (first gen 360). As you can imagine I was hyped on Halo....but after a while.....wouldn't you know it...The dreaded "Red Ring Of Death....:(

So far the ones we have are working fine and using them as Media Center Extenders works very well.

I don't think I've heard any horror stories with the PS3...anybody have any?

Oh...yeah....I'm diggin' the fact that the PS3 comes with a Blue Ray Drive....

That's why I haven't bought a 360, I don't know what they would do, like, do you need some kind of warranty or something? When my PS3 acted up they delivered a replacement one free of charge (I don't know if they would do it again), but I had my PS3 for ages before it acted up.. the reason for it breaking wasn't its fault either!

My friends are 360 fanboys (To the point of saying "LBP sucks! MGS4 sucks!"). for some reason, all of them have broke at least twice, that's why I'm uncertain of them.

For me, Blu-Ray is a redeeming feature of the cost of the PS3 as well.
And PS3 has LBP and MGS4. :D
I've played a 360 at a friend's house.. to be honest, I wasn't really that impressed. Played Mafia II, and Fable II.. I thought the console seemed a bit, well... slow?

I might be getting a 360, I was supposed to have one from a friend (the one I just mentioned :D) for helping him out with some stuff (since he's like, rich because he has his own company) but he got robbed and lost it (what kind of moron forgets to lock their front door when they live in a rough area??). :bonk: Only thing I'm unsure about is this RROD, and how to avoid it.

Probably a preference, wich is mine as well. He's an FPS player. For fps players, the mouse wins over joypads anytime!

I can buy any pc game and it will play. I don't even have to look at wich console. So that also strongly depends on the kind of pc player.
I love preferences. If I open the options on a consolegame, it always leaves me disappointed. Specially when it comes to controls. I love the fact that most games let you assign every button to function while consolegames give you 3 options of the total picture.

I also enjoy only having to upgrade every five years to play the newest and shiniest games, compared to a computer.
This is specially the reason why I prefer the PC instead. I love it when a new technology comes that I do not need to wait 5 years to explore it. Also, those new and shiny games are mostly released on the PC before consoles may have a taste.
The unreal-engine, the crytek-engine.. You have to wait five years to get old games, you just don't know it as they are given to you as "new" :p

Computers have their pluses, including being able to play quite complex games with ease (strategy games) but consoles are good in their own way, too.
Like I said, preferences.. I use them for different kind of things. FPS and RTS will be played on the PC.
RPG (Wich is probably why you prefer consoles),action/adventure and racing is easier on consoles.

One big plus of PC's is that you sit closer to your screen, speakers, controls..
I really have the feeling that the gamingexperience is a lot better behind a PC.
For this reason I play my favourite RPG's behind my PC. Another reason is in case of Fallout because they are also FPS :p

I'll just have to respect your difference in opinion. As you said, the games I enjoy the most (RPG's mainly) are only released on console. I like strategy games, which do work best with the precision of a mouse, but that's a minor gaming like of mine.

The new technologies that you mention on computer aren't really of interest to me. I like new games, because I like to see what my favourite companies have managed to do, and because they usually learn from past mistakes (and make a few new mistakes instead) and I don't really need top-notch graphics engines or the like - gameplay and story are both far more important to me.

If you want the best graphics, go and play with Photoshop.

EDIT: Oh, yes, if I wanted to get a gaming PC, I would be best to start off with a new PC, which would cost a thousand dollars for a somewhat decent setup. An XBOX would cost about three-fifty, four hundred dollars (haven't priced them too closely), and a PS3 would cost about five hundred dollars (or six-fifty with several games bundled in).

Well that's exactly why I said it's just a preference. PC players and Consoleplayers are 2 different kinds. Different games, different devices. I happen to like both but still have a strong preference for PC's. But I can understand both. New technologies do interrest me, but that's also because new engines give more than only graphics. Gameplay is also part of the engine.

Btw, not only is the mouse an important part of strategygames (And others), but so is 105 buttons ;) Wich proved to be handy for RPG's as well. Then again you enjoy JRPG's a bit more, so you have all the time in the world for your moves. :D
When it comes to controls though, I know many people who do not enjoy using a keybord. Total opposite world, they think it has too many buttons and get confused. A few friends of mine have this. It feels equal to my struggle trying to FPS on a console.

About the money, my friend has cars as hobby... Having a PC as hobby is way cheaper :D

O and edit: If you prefer better graphics, do not put me behind photoshop...

Did Microsoft fix the red ring thing on current models of the XBOX 360 or is it still a crapshoot?
