It does matter because we aren't discussing tobacco. By bringing it up, you are the one steering clear of the subject of gun control, which is something America sorely and desperately needs.
No. We need it so people are trained to use their guns, how to safely handle and store them, people need to be certified and screened to get a gun, and if you show signs of mental instability (as most mass-public shooters do), or if you have ever committed a violent crime, our laws need amended so you can't get a gun. If you have a record of being irresponsible (such as a poor driving record, which shows a lack of concern for the safety and well being of yourself and others), you can't get a gun. To use the tired cliché, with great power comes great responsibility, and guns indeed are a great power that require great responsibility.I agree on the need for gun control. So many people can't hit their target when they shoot. They need to spend more time at the range so that they can control their guns and hit their targets.

Some of them, legally. The guy who shot up his middle school in Arkansas, back in the late 90s, because he did it as a juvenile once he was released he had no record, making it possible for him to legally acquire a gun.Do you have any clue where convicted felons get their guns from?
Obviously, the law is too relaxed. It has been illegal for diagnosed mental patients to own a gun for years.

Are you talking about how the gun was acquired for the Lafayette theater shooting? How did he get a gun? Did he steal it? Did he buy it from an illegal street dealer? Did he take it from a family member?Laws have changed in the last TWENTY years.
The laws are fine. The guns that are being used are:
1. Stolen
2. Bought on the street
3. Taken from a family member who did not have them locked up
Can't do much about 1 or 2. Number 3 falls on the individual.
