I can’t keep the same avatar more than a week or two max, get tired of them. Some of you keep yours for literal decades. I don’t know how you do it.
I used to frequently change mine, too. Now I have settled on Korg, here. Korg is a kindly rock monster from the film Thor Ragnorok and also appears in another Marvel film. He plays the part of a comic relief.

Korg is a cellmate of Thor and introduces himself to Thor by saying "Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Korg. I'm kind of like the leader in here. I'm made of rocks, as you can see. But don't let that intimidate you. You don't need to be afraid unless you're made of scissors. Just a little rock-paper-scissor joke for you."

Korg once tried to start a revolution. It fizzled out. Korg said it failed because he didn't print enough pamphlets.

So, I wondered about some of your avatars. Give a lil explanation of how and why you chose yours for the thread ^.^

I had almost no reason for choosing mine (as opposed to my username, which has some sort of meaning, albeit not one that makes much sense here).
But once I've used it for a while, it became my 'face' for this site. I tend to only rarely change avatars on any forum (although I use different ones everywhere).

Back in the day, I used to write shared RP stuff, and you'd have multiple accounts with avatars tied to each character. Changing the avatar was possible, but it was kinda a big deal. Like getting plastic surgery in some ways. Perhaps that initial exposure to forum-posting has stuck with me?

He also speaks with a broad Kiwi accent, which made me chuckle.

I've done this before on

Your avatar.

So I'll copy it to here

I was helping out as a grunt on an archaeological dig (a hobby of mine). Clearing away spoil in a cave i unearthed a smooth dome. Unsure if it was just a rock or something more interesting i called over the supervisor. He painstakingly unearthed one of the best preserved cro-magnon skulls ever found.

Today you can see it on display at the Nation Museum of Prehistory at Les Eyzies.

It's dated to 22,000 years old so besides the cachet of discovering it, it is handy when in "discussion" with YECs.
Wait, so you're saying it was just floating out in space for 16,000 years waiting for God to create the Earth?

That's crazy. :D

(That is so cool that you found that! I will definitely be using that bit of information as bragging fodder next time I mention the forum to my RL friends)

The man and monkey in my avatar are two characters from a graphic novel I've been getting around to working on for the last few years.

Might be time for a new one soon.

It was my graduation picture. Mom said I looked cute. First entomologist in the family.

Mine is from the Chick Tract, Big Daddy. Chick.com: Big Daddy?

It's apparently what creationists think biology teachers and professors are like, which I find hilarious. I also derive a twisted pleasure when someone just can't get past the avatar and bases their whole approach to me on it.
And therein rests the reason that I chose a cute and fuzzy little bunny as my avatar. It is disarming.

I don't care much about appearance. I had one other avatar, a picture of me, to which an other user objected. So I looked through my photos and found a result of one of my hobbies. Note that the die is forged, not cast.

Why on earth would someone object to that?

Marcion

gopa of humanity's controversial Taraka Brahma
It's Nataraj, Lord Shiva dancing the vigorous jumpy tandava dance with its physical, mental and spiritual benefits.

He kickstarted human civilisation just over 7000 years ago, gave us the institute of marriage (responsible dads), the systematic sciences of music, dance (including tandava) and spirituality (tantra) and He was the first of the great tantric Guru's (Taraka Brahma). Sadly He is now just mainly known to Hindu's and Indian tantrics, although He is said to have travelled around the world during His life time.

The eight-pointed star is part of my pratiik, the symbol (yantra) of leading a balanced life (socially and spiritually) leading to enlightenment and liberation.
Not visible are the skull (or live snake) in His left hand and the dagger (or fire torch) in His right hand, symbolizing the negative (death or animality) and the positive (life or dharma) between which everyone is struggling forward in their lives.
