- at least here in Canada, a party receives funding from the government based on the total number of votes it received in the previous election. If my vote has no other effect, it directs a few dollars toward my party of choice that would've otherwise gone to some other party.
In my state, ballot access for the next election is assured if a party exceeds a certain percentage of the vote, but if not, the third party has to jump over all the ballot access barriers erected by the major parties that control the electoral commission.

Voting third can be strategic as well. If a major party believes a third party acted as a spoiler and caused its defeat, it might consider adopting some of that party's ideas to help gain those voters next time around.

I have a sticker that says
United States Marines
When you care enough to send the very best
However, it came with the truck. I don't have any of my own.

good buy, i bet that sticker does wonders in a traffic stop.

I'd ask you why. I consider myself a Libertarian, but if they can't realistically get into office, why not make sure the lesser of two evils wins? Unless, of course, you think they're tied.
this sort of thinking makes me want to throw up.

3. "SPEED UP OR MOVE OVER!" in mirrored text on the front left of my car, so people that don't understand how to get out of the fast lane, and prevent traffic congestion and accidents, can have a clue as to what they are supposed to be doing.

That is just fantastic. That is one of my biggest pet peeves.

May I ask why?

americans can be the first to admit themselves powerless, yet we're in possession of so much more power than so many others (past and present). when tired men signed a document ensuring that the sort of subjugation they have suffered will not repeat itself i can only imagine that vomiting would be their response to hearing someone two hundred years in the future saying "i dont vote for what i believe in, because nobody's going to listen."

Makes me wanna puke too, but it's still true.

I didn't hear anyone say that. What I heard was someone saying that they vote for the lesser of two evils because the candidate they really want stands absolutely no chance at all of winning. It sucks, but that's the way it is. Although, there is another option that I am all in favor of, which is what I'm going to start a thread on.

i didnt hear anyone say anything. :D jayslashkay

i'm looking forward to your thread, then. because options are what we have and limitations are something we shouldn't accept.

Fair enough. But the thought that a few million people werent realistic, voted for Nader, and put Dubya in office makes me want to puke a lot more. The problem with voting for unrealistic candidates is that the damage done by having a worse party in office now outweighs the fact that you might help get your party in office a 100 years from now. Theres only one winner in elections.

Yeah, it was time these people were dealt with. Hence me making the bumper sticker. Although, I think its usually people so stupid that they dont notice a long line of cars tailing them with open fields of road in front of them, so I wont hold out too much hope that they'll notice the sticker, let alone be able to read it.

Done here.

People blaming Nader for Bush make me want to puke.

If Gore had carried his OWN STATE, he would have won.

If Sandra Day O'Connor and her buddies hadn't said it was IMPERMISSIBLE TO ACTUALLY COUNT THE BALLOTS in Florida, Gore would have won.

Blaming Nader voters is lame attempt by Democrats to shame liberals into voting for them, since they're not willing to do anything that might actually make liberals WANT to vote for them.

I don't have any bumper stickers (I don't have a car either, haha.) but when I do get a car I want one of the co-exist ones.

i find this thinking to be short sighted. but not short sighted enough to make me want to throw up. at least not again today.

What is short sighted about wanting politicians in place that agree with you 78%, instead of politicians that agree with you 42%, since you realize that, as sad as it is, only 4% of the voters are willing to elect the politicians that agree with you 97%? Last time I checked, 3rd place gets 0% power in office. So what is "short sighted" exactly?

it's been illustrated that votes (though they may not be votes cast for a winning candidate) make a difference to the one who's being voted for. and voting for one of the 'evil' candidates (rather than voting for whomever you actually want to be president) leaves the two party system right where it is, with it's boot on your throat. allowing the failings of the american government to determine the future of the american government is only good if you dont live in the united states. the freedoms we have are not as limited as a coin toss between two people whom you have admitted to being 'evil'.

I've always thought this would be a good one.
"Shouldn't you be watching the road?"

Exactly. Bumper stickers cause accidents, as folk start tailgating to make out what they say. Not everyone's eyesight is what they should be, so text size isn't important, no matter how big some will tailgate to read it. Plus.... cops pull over cars with bumper stickers, given any excuse. They get more tickets given out that way, and even arrests if they can find an excuse to search the car.

So, if you want tickets and getting rear-ended, go ahead and put on bumper stickers... ;)
