A whole range but my preference is heavier style, I mostly listen to 60s, 70s and 80s Australian bands.

Not so much into later incarnations of Rock, with groups like Led Zeppelin, Van Der Graaf Generator (if as such), The Doors, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, and similar, so more Prog Rock to my taste. Can't stand anything where the lyrics are not recognisable as such or the sound just becomes noise - but there are some exceptions.

Most rock is good to me, i like the late 60s and much of the 70s best but can quite happily listen to more modern rock. What i don't like is punk and shouty stuff

I honestly don't even think about that term, anymore. Music is just music. What appeals to me about music can manifest in any genre. Intelligence, creativity, honesty, depth, sophistication, ...

Use any and all pronouns including neo and it/it's
To be honest I listen to all music. Genre I often ignore and dont know the specifics often confusing different types of music especially subtypes. I like music. Just listening to it. Rock, country, classical, pop, indie, folk...If I like it it's listened to. Seriously my playlist is like listening to a soft lullaby one moment to heavy metal the next you listening to folk music. And it just keeps changing drasticly the farther you go along.

The most likely thing ever to put me off was the vocalist - I suppose because it's so individual. As to the lyrics, I find it's often best that you can't make them out ( Peter Hammill aside of course ;) ) .
Yeah, that is true. The lyrics do depend on the song of course. Much was said about Bob Dylan's voice as to why some didn't take to him. Some of the voices that might not appeal are Al Stewart, the vocalists on Spring, Yes, or the Fureys, that I can think of offhand. Just one of those things, and I can't stand the sound of so many too.

I think it's a reason I gravitate towards instrumental music.
