Speaking of hypocrisy, how many liberal Democrats do live in mansions surrounded by a security barrier, but these gated community dwellers oppose an effective border security barrier?

I have no clue, do you? I really don't think you do.

The statue of Liberty is a monument for legal immigration. ....Right?

I highly doubt that was on Emma Lazarus's mind. She is clearly meant to be a beacon of hope for all.

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
MOTHER OF EXILES. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome

Mark Zuckerberg advocates open borders, but his hawaiian mansion is surrounded by a wall ...:D

She's actually a Roman goddess.

Ancient Rome was the original home of the exiles. Until one day, the Germanic immigrants overthrew the Roman government. That's how Rome fell.

I guess some might say that the Roman's shouldn't have allowed them in. But they absolutely did. That's a fact.

Amidst a government shut-down, I think it's time we discuss this potential wall, and why it's such a good or bad idea.

...Do do you or do you not support a wall on the U.S. southern border? Please explain your reasons.

I understand the idea behind it, but in reality, I think it will most likely just be a very expensive thing for illegals to climb over.

The poem is titled "The New Colossus", which is a reference to a Greek monument.

The point I'm making here is people say they're for open borders, but when given the choice, they don't actually live that way ....

That should have been obvious, but I guess that depends on who you're dealing with... I guess...

First of that is selection bias and it is senseless to think two people can represent the "Left"; furthermore, we are not talking about open borders, we are talking about a stupid wall.

People for good reason have effective security barriers around their own homes or communities to keep away trespassers, if that works well for them, then why do you doubt an effective border security barrier would keep away many trespassers?

Most security border patrol agents do support a border security barrier; they should know how much safer their law enforcement jobs will be with an effective border security barrier.

I'm slowly coming around to the merits of having a wall on the northern American border!
We can make Sweden pay for it, just... ... because.
Concerned, But Not Wanting To Offend, Canada Quietly Plants Privacy Hedge Along Entire U.S. Border.

“And we’re happy to pay for it,” say a united front of Canadian premiers, national leaders, mayors, citizens, and casual acquaintances, of the newly planted hedge that has sprung up seemingly overnight, running unbroken for 6,416 kilometers, along the world’s longest undefended border.

“Sometimes the best way for neighbours to get along, is a little bit of privacy. Even in the winter. Even when you have to break frozen ground to get it. Even when your neighbour has spy satellites and a penchant for caching electronic communications. Even then, a hedge can’t hurt.”
