It will tell Russia that they can do what they want and nobody will lift a finger.

So let's say Ukraine is left hanging, leaving them no choice but to "freeze" current frontlines and hand over the conquered territory.
Here's my prediction:

Russia will "pauze" the conflict. Regroup, restructure, rebuild it's army.
2 to 4 years down the line, they'll move in again to take the rest of Ukraine (or Georgia or Moldova or whatever), fully assuming the result will be the same.
Some outrage, some help and some time later, leaving them hanging again and appeasing the tyrant once again.


This is what happens when you appease bullies: they come back for more.

Nobody is "playing". The invasion and bombing of Ukraine is very real and very serious.
