The Real Reason Trump Won

What do you think? Legitimate analysis? Or liberal hogwash?

It's true, I think, but doesn't tell the whole story.

In an election between a "typical-politician" and "strong-and-wrong", "strong-and-wrong" won. The volume of the messaging helps, but, whether or not the messaging resonates is a function of individual attitudes and circumstances.

Well, I didn't so there's that. I do think the democrats dropped the ball in 2024.
The democrats have been dropping the ball since the 1980s. But then so have the American people. We let a bunch of corporate criminals convince us that our own government was our enemy, and so we rendered it impotent and corrupt by our expecting it to be impotent and corrupt. We voted for criminals because we expected them to be criminals. And then they sold us out to the big corporate conglomerates because that's who we very, VERY stupidly thought would save us. Remember back in the 80s when everyone was talking about how private enterprise was so much more efficient and egalitarian than government? And now they own us. They own everything and we are a bunch of blind helpless slaves to their corporate greed. And they have totally corrupted the only means we had of reigning them in ... our own government.

And we let them do it. We even applauded it. We would have gone to war with any nation that dared attack our government, and yet we let corporate conglomerates and their media and political blowhards convince us to destroy our own government, ourselves. And Donald Trump is just the man to finish that job. And finish it he will.

So congratulations America, you got what your corporate overlords told you that you wanted. But of course it was always only what THEY wanted ... to get the government out of the way so they could rob and pillage the American people at will.

He won because of lots of reasons. Everyone, especially the pundits, like to make it about their own pet grievances. In no particular order:

- The Democrats were too liberal/not liberal enough
- Biden, (much like Trump's father), should have pulled out sooner/Biden shouldn't have pulled out at all
- Biden and Harris too supportive of Israel/Not supportive enough
- Harris was too in bed with the establishment/attacked the establishment

Then there are the classics:

- GoP voters are racist/sexist/homophobic. This is true somewhat in that these types are drawn to the GoP, but I don't think the majority of Republicans are these things.
- Trump voters are stupid/in a cult. This is true for his die hard followers, but I think the majority are voting him out of spite for the establishment or "liberals" in general.

The reality is people vote for all kinds of reasons and there is no magic answer or that one unifying reason. Biden did a miserable job as president and his voter base either didn't come out or punished Democrats by voting GoP. Yes the stock market is soaring but most Americans own very little stock, and 50% don't own any at all, therefore don't give a rats fat behind. 93% of stock is owned by the top 10% and even then most of that is owned by the top 1%.

Since Washington politicians and the pundit class i.e. FOX, CNN, MSNBC live in the same wealth bubble they don't compute that most Americans are broke, because they themselves are reaping a record windfall. Voters, sick of living with their parents in their 30's and working two and a half jobs to make ends meet, grit their teeth and voted GoP hoping for the best. They will be sorry since Trump is a grifting incompetent moron, and don't understand how economics or politics work, but they did what they did. Tariffs make prices higher, not lower, exacerbate a poor economy and prevent recovery. Inflation isn't directly controlled by the president and punishing him is largely a waste of time... but the people on top always get the blame.

Americans also don't vote in primary elections, which allows people like Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi to occupy their seats for 30+ years despite not doing anything for their voters. When people don't produce you are supposed to vote them out... perhaps Americans should start exercising that power more.

Can people really be in such a bubble that they don't even know about the other side's view? That's only possible in a cult, where you live on a farm with no family, no friends, no coworkers and no access to outside information.
One has to actively and deliberately deny the available information. I don't think Hanlon's Razor is applicable for the vast majority of Trump voters.
No. It's the simple reality of the ability for putting food on the table, paying for one's roof over their head, paying to keep themselves afloat, and saving for a rainy day.

The ones in a bubble are those who don't see the obvious.

Correct, it was a low-information voter election. People thinking Democrats were to blame for inflation and high prices.
People were misled and misinformed. This is the result. Even some Dems believed that misinformation.

No. People saw the reality under democrats leadership.

It's clearly spending and regulation that makes things unaffordable.

If you are not an American - should you be talking like this? Don't you see a problem in that?

Corporate criminals? Its politicians who are the criminals that get on board with companies.
If you research, many people who used to work for the government regulating companies now work for said companies.

Example 1. Mark McClellan is a former commissioner for the FDA regulating companies like Johnson and Johnson. He then went on to be on the board of directors for Johnson and Johnson.

Example 2. Scott Gottlieb is a former commissioner for the FDA regulating companies like Pfizer. He went on to be on the board of directors for Pfizer.

Example 3. Stephen Hahn is a former commissioner for the FDA regulating companies like Moderna. He went on to be Flagship/Moderna chief medical officer.

I am feeling America is not ready for a female president.
We elected a black man, and we would elect a woman.

The problem was that the black man was just another middle-of-the-road democratic politician. He did nothing to reign in the corporate greed that is strangling the American people. So that kind of "change" didn't work. As a result, Harris being a women brought no gravitas after Obama had squandered that kind of 'hope in a change'.

Calling it “misinformation” to put some blame on the incumbent for the performance on the economy is a ridiculous spin to put on it.

Prices went up and the incumbent gets the blame regardless because they were in power and there is no ability to run an alternative reality with the other side in power.

People go on what actually happened, not what might in theory have happened had someone else been in power.
