Are other human species considered as having had a soul (Neanderthals, H. erectus and so on) or is it only our species that the notion of a soul is applicable to?
I was going to write the same! Teaching people how to relax and take time out for themselves is vital for physical and mental health. So many pupils get stressed almost to the point of a breakdown during exam time.

IMO, nothing has a soul. For those that do believe that non-human animals don't and humans do is, to me, just another form of pious, self-elevating, arrogant speciesist poo.

I agree with Luis and Revoltingest. People are free to believe in whatever they want, so a predominantly atheistic society couldn't remove that right. All it would mean is that special privileges would be withdrawn - if people still wanted places of worship, then they should pay for them themselves.
