    I can't say it's good or bad in an absolute sense. I can say that it isn't necessary if vegetarian alternatives are available.

    I agree Annie. It's highly doubtful that the world's population will turn vegetarian overnight, leaving billions of cattle with nothing to do. If we phased out our meat consumption (or at least, considerably reduced it), then less animals would need to be bred for future consumption.
