That is a new way of looking at all of the historical figures like Ben Franklin and Marcus Aurelius whose writings I love.
A get a lot of flak from Satanists on other forums for being too apologetic for spiritual religions, but I choose to think like that so I don't waste any energy thinking...
Some Satanists have the utmost contempt for Christianity and other spiritual religions, but I find as I become older and wiser I have discovered that it's not worth concerning myself over them. Perhaps such contempt of Christianity was useful back in the era in which Anton LaVey lived; I wasn't...
Theoretically, God is the only creature who would not value anything as greater than himself. Though I've said elsewhere that a characteristic of Satanists includes having a healthy amount of self-esteem, this may have been a little inaccurate in terms of Satanic ideas.
Magister Nemo once...
You can't really define success narrowly, as I'm sure someone as intelligent as yourself no doubt knows. Nor would every Satanist agree with every other Satanist's definition of success. We each have our own values, desires, dreams, and standards based on what kind of cards we were dealt when we...
Pretenders to the Throne
If you read the Satanism section of the forum (And I don't blame you if you don't, the interesting topics being few and far between), and if you care enough to recognize a pattern, you might see that Church of Satan members and its' supporters hold contempt for people...
I'm a little behind in my bible studies, but I don't think the Bible has "Thou shalt not spank" anywhere in it, and since they took the time to say, "Thou shalt not do high-brow things with animals" I would think it must have been deliberate.
There are good, constructive and bad, harmful ways of expressing masochistic tendencies. From my own experience, people who are masochists tend to be rather unhappy though.
I think that's bad, but of course I don't put quotes around good and bad. :)
I was referring to you being a nihilist goofy
I like to think of society in terms of a pendulum; a generation believes in a thing and thinks it good. Later generations deny the thing and feel liberated, as though they are breaking away from useless cobwebs inherited from past generations. If a problem arises and silently creeps in because...
Most masochists are unconscious about it, are mysteries to themselves, and operate on autopilot.
Everyone who's aware of it and chooses to pin that label to themselves have probably already joined a BDSM club or something :flirt:
I don't even tell most of my family of my religious affiliation.
I have an aunt who is Christian and is quite odd in that she will sometimes call everyone in our family to check up on us after receiving, she believes, a premonition that something bad might have happened to us based on the holy...
My definition of religion is rather broad; what is most important to you in life, or your deepest convictions. I sometimes forget myself and think that word "religion" means the same thing to everyone else.
If something is useful to you then run with it
I didn't mean to offend you; you're probably better than me at a lot of things. :)
I don't think this discussion can be very productive, spiritual people and secular people have very different views about themselves, human nature, and "people" in general.
I think spiritual thinking is harmful...
Depends on the context:
Religion based on hidden or overlooked knowledge
or
Trite, worthless garbage that has no applicable use today. What's your sign? :)
You must be being obtuse; one of the longest standing things all societies have in common since the idea was thought up was that the people in a state shouldn't kill, hurt, or steal from each other.
This needs no justification more than "I would really like to be able to walk down the street...
