Yes, 'something is possible as long as it's not self-contradictory' may well be an absurdity. I already said in a previous post that 'omnipotence is fictitious'
So, like I mentioned before lets just find out what's simply logical or not fictitious? Miracles? Or God? Supernatural? Examples, please?
Mate, this 'devils advocate' thing can get a little tiring. No I don't have to explain it because its obvious, really. Please tell me you understand the gist of a logical world.
Fair enough, something is possible as long as it's not self-contradictory, is this what the thread is about?
But...
Yeah I have, but can you answer my question, please. '....what are some examples of miracles that are logical, physical or otherwise?'
All I said originally is that 'I think that miracles are something that defies the logical world...'
I don't want to know about possibilities.....
Yeah, I think he has many great ideas and following what Jesus says can be a very good thing.
However, haven't there been many contemporary people like him with similar values and morals? So why do so many follow Jesus, a man from another time and place?
I think the closest thing to knowing what it's like to be dead is being under a general anaesthetic.
And, you experience and feel nothing and time stops, so death will probably be like that for eternity.
You won't even know your dead, no brain activity, nothing.
Yes, two things.
Firstly, I understand there are questions in the natural world that cannot be answered, at the moment, the big one is gravity and quantum mechanics but considering science's infancy and its record for answering these questions, surely it is only a matter of time.
Secondly...
Yes, I think at the end of the day, if you like the idea of miracles, and that's what gets you thinking, that's cool and not illogical.
Maybe, I think that you may be doing 'nature/science' an injustice if you believe in miracles. Concepts like nature, our brains and so on are truly amazing...
Maybe some people, for whatever reason, need to believe that there is more to being human (a miracle) then the fact that we are animals, that have evolved to be these incredible, intelligent beings. I think that is much more exciting then believing in miracles.
And thinking our humanity is...
Yes I have considered these traits and I believe they are just part of being human, these traits have developed through evolution, we all have them and we have them for a reason, nothing 'miraculous' about that.
I have to disagree, maybe 'illogical' is the wrong term. And it may also depend on your definition of miracle.
Or maybe I'm ignorant to the 'many unexplained phenomena' you are referring too.
A very thoughtful response and I respect that.
However, just in the hear and now. Do you think miracles are illogical? Or a word that is similar to illogical, like 'unfounded' or 'flawed' or 'unreasonable'
Or if you dont know, which way are you leaning towards, can you answer that? ;)
Surely, when you read this, miracles are simply illogical
Yes, in classic theism only. The only logic God created, is the logic in theist's heads.
And the idea of omnipotence is a mute point because the only thing with great power is nature and thankfully, for the most part its balanced...
