Neutral Comparison of Sikhi and Christianity!

SpentaMaynu, you can purchase a 5 volume set with Gurbani and English translation here: Siri Guru Granth Sahib with English Translation - High Quality Printed Hardcover 5 Volume Set | SikhNet You could also download a translation in English and have it printed privately, but I've looked into it...

    New Sikh Here.

Sat Sri Akal Ji, and welcome to RF. The more Sikhs here the merrier. :) I have been very interested in Sikhi for a long time, but recently declared myself non-Sikh. I still feel the pull, regularly, but I cannot call myself a Sikh now with any degree of honesty. I drink, I smoke, I argue...

Yes, I agree that Bhagat Dhanna is not asking for more than any regular person would be asking for. I still think it is unusual in the larger scheme of the Gurbani. I don't believe a prayer can manifest anything by itself. Hard work, acceptance and contentment seems to be the general thrust...

Sikhs: Do all 'religions' lead to God?

I have never come across that about Fareed, thank you for sharing. I didn't say that one 'can't reach god' by following Sikhi. What I said was that no religion leads to 'god', not even Sikhism. Religion itself is limited. There is spiritual truth in Sikhi, living what the Guru teaches, and...

I agree with you that no one tuk can be taken as the rule, leaving all other tuks aside. This leads me to think that since the majority of Gurbani encourages us to pray for Naam, that there is something curious about Bhagat Dhanna's shabad that needs to be considered in the context of the rest...

Sikhs: Do all 'religions' lead to God?

Twist Sikhi? The Sikh quam does a good enough job of that on its own. What exactly is the 'T', anyway? Is it what is written in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji? Is Damdami Taksal's rehat maryada closer to the 'T', or SGPC's? Or perhaps some of those other mayradas you linked me to? What of Fareed...

Sikhs: Do all 'religions' lead to God?

Gurmat is a framework which enables a person to transcend religion. The Guru (the metaphysical Guru) is not Sikh. Sikhism is a religion like any other, trapped in time and space, bound to an Earthly population. I'm sure aliens who aren't Sikh still have their methods to 'lead to god'...

Sikhs: Do all 'religions' lead to God?

Precisely. Personally I would enjoy reading your responses, Luis. Actually, is it kosher for *me* to be replying in the Sikh DIR? Where does one draw the line around who does and doesn't belong.

Thank you for the reminder to read Gurbani in its entirety. Does this mean we have a contradiction within the Gurbani? Guru Arjan Sahib Ji recommends against asking for anything other than Naam, and Bhagat Dhanna is praying for a 'fine Turkesian horse' (i.e. a really nice car) and fine...

Sikhs: Do all 'religions' lead to God?

It's not just a theistic concern. There are atheist Sikhs.
