    What is Sanatan Dharma

From an English speaking perspective, I have always understood Sanatan Dharma to be the traditional name for the umbrella of Hindu religions (and Hindu actually referring to ethnicity until it became the term that replaced Sanatan Dharma and Indian became the term to replace Hindu (the...

A Heathen and an Infidel Walk Into a Bar....

The heathen toasts the Gods, her ancestors and future victories, and the infidel has already called the next round of drinks.

A request for a Sanatana Dharma DIR- Dharmic and Staff members Only

Side question to HLK: Who is the "they" who have stolen your word, and the "them" that Hinduism will have nothing to do with? Just curious. Don't mean to derail the conversation. Much obliged.

Why call it a gas station when it actually sells petrol? :P

A request for a Sanatana Dharma DIR- Dharmic and Staff members Only

Since Sikhi was mentioned in the OP... Respectfully, Ratikala, Sikhi is also not a 'Sanatan Dharma'. Some people and groups do follow a form of 'Sanatan Sikhi' but it runs counter to mainstream Sikhi. In the past, threads in the Sikh DIR which are more 'Sanatan Sikh' have been moved from the...

    Animals Can Be Giant Jerks

Alceste Thanks for your input (and everyone else, of course). If I may ask, if there is no difference between homo sapiens and the rest of the animal kingdom (despite our apparent ability to be rational and our presumably "higher intelligence"), are value judgements about the behaviour of own...

    Animals Can Be Giant Jerks

Thanks for taking the time to explain it, anyway :)

    Animals Can Be Giant Jerks

Assuming you are from the dharmic side of the fence, how to you understand, or put into context, the subject of this thread, within your worldview? If you're not "dharmic", please ignore my question.

    Animals Can Be Giant Jerks

This short article Animals can be giant jerks | I ****ing Love Science talks about some things that some animals do which aren't in line with most human ethical standards; kidnapping, rape, ransom, necrophilia. How does this article make you feel about the world, and your Creator (if you're...

Need advice... Clashing feelings about faiths!

For me it's like having a switch, but I can't operate it at will. I can believe one thing one day, and not the next.

Need advice... Clashing feelings about faiths!

You are writing precisely how I feel right now, Illy Kitty. I've been reading this book: Secular Wholeness: What's It About? (you can read it online, HTML) and it's giving me something to think about, structure and purpose without a particular religion. Here's a bit from the Intro: I...

    Spiritual Activities and Your Panentheism

Hello What kind of spiritual activities do you engage in (if any) as a panentheist? Is panentheism a philosophical idea you believe in, in addition to an established religion you follow? Thanks

    Child-free?

I'm biologically child-free, but my husband has two children to his ex-wife. I've never been interested in having my own children. My brother and his wife are also child-free.

    Cleaning House and Decluttering

I like to do the same as you; clean places that don't usually get cleaned. Since I rent, and the agent is strict on quarterly inspections, my house gets cleaned extra well every three months anyway. And husband and I are quite minimalistic, so there isn't much furniture to move around.

    Loyalty and divorced families

Thanks for the replies. Yes, my husband and his ex-wife have two children, they are aged 18 and 20.

    Loyalty and divorced families

Greetings I'm curious about other people's take on this scenario. How would you feel about your husband's family maintaining contact (via Facebook) with his ex-wife, when you've been married to him for 6 years and they've been divorced for 11 (and your husband and his ex-wife don't get...

    Confused about Sikhism/Hinduism differences

    How to start ?

It's not politics, they are separate and distinct belief systems. That's one of the reasons why we have a Hindu DIR and a Sikh DIR.
