Ah I see! Is it just the introduction that is not "revealed"?
By the way another random question? Why aren't the D&C and Pearl of Great Price mentioned in the articles of faith?
Thank-you for explaining the history! :)
OK so if the lamanites weren't the principal ancestors (especially given the DNA), why did the Book of Mormon originally say that?
This is what I meant before about me expecting too much possibly. Spelling errors, grammar etc I can see how they would...
I'm understanding the DNA facts but I think I must be misunderstanding the historical facts/LDS belief.
Is the DNA a separate issue to the claim in the Book of Mormon that lamanites were the principal ancestors of native Americans?
Is this right... Lehi was a lamanite? From middle East? Came...
Thanks Katz, what you say would make sense but why did the Book of Mormon used to say that the lamanites were the principal ancestors of the American indians? (Prior to the 2006 change)
Hi, I have a few questions....
While I can understand the Catholics perspective behind the Marian doctrines, ie Mary is the mother of Jesus and therefore he listens to her, we pray for each other etc so why can't those in heaven pray for us. Why are they necessary? Why not just pray to God...
Another couple of "issues" (I don't like calling them that, but its the best word I have!)
A critical site mentions the following:
Although in the Bible God destroys the veil, Mormonism replaces it in the Temples? (I think I know the answer to this but would still be interested to hear from...
OK so if I have this right, instead of saying right belief creates a good action, the right behaviour will open up the spiritual to the person and will create the right belief? This means that where as some religions of numerous Creed's about belief etc, Mormonism does not?
I think that makes sense! It was my first day out of PJs and out the house today since my operation so feeling quite tired! :) will take another look tomorrow and will ask any questions I have.
Thanks so much for the effort you (and Katz) etc are putting into your responses!
Sorry random question..... How would you guys explain the belief that marriage carries on for eternity etc (and in some circumstances are sealed by proxy)? When there is a Bible passage which says there is no marriage in heaven etc. Thanks
Thanks Katz. Don't feel guilty for posting links, they are very useful and as I have time on my hands at the moment, I have had time to read through some of the links you have given me.
I suppose reading them has created another minor issue though in that for some of the topics, while there...
Yes I agree, the church follows the law well. Different topic but in the UK, you have to be married in a place everyone can attend so LDS here have to have a chapel wedding and then a temple marriage (not just a temple marriage like in USA). I cant imagine they would be different with other laws.
I have had my name removed from LDS records and all it took was a letter asking. To be honest, I could have just gone "inactive" and not attend but I wanted something official.
Thank
Thanks for that! I didnt know that the man in question had later become an LDS. I dont have any specific comments on the first lot. Katz is right, im trying to keep within the rules but also your responses were very informative and made sense. Im going to go over everything though so I...
Orontes got the Joseph Smith question. I was referring to him being hired to find money. Critics say he was convicted and found guilty. Connected to this actually is how he translated the BoM. Critics seem to think he used the same process (stone in a hat) as trying to find the money. I cant...
Im back! :) Well recovering at least! I had gallstone pancreatitis and ended up having my gallbladder removed. Thanks for your posts and replies to my first lot of questions, I had a quick read through while I was in hospital but will keep referring to them now I am at home and not allowed to...
Katzpurs post in the LDS DIR:
"Of course you may ask some "tricky" questions, and I'd be happy to send you some links to some excellent "LDS answer to the critics" type sites. The LDS DIR isn't super active for one reason. Most people don't want to just ask questions and get answers. They want...
Can only LDS answer please. I originally posted this in their DIR but as Im not LDS that isnt really appropriate.
Hope an LDS member can help!
Hi all,
As some of you may know, I used to be LDS (about 10years ago) but left for a variety of reasons after some research. I'll admit that most of...
