I have personally found this to be a real problem. I got to grips with religion in 2011 and decided that Buddhism was the answer. At first this was great, a real relief in fact. Slowly problems crept in, I was never sure that there is "no soul" for one. I experienced real distress over this but...
I have always been interested in this story and have often thought that it could be over simplified.
You may tell monkeys and birds not to eat from your tree but as soon as you turn your back they will come and eat. That is nature. Adam and Eve were different, they had human attributes as well...
Yes, I was going to say that. But I then thought that before eating the fruit, the idea entered a mind, was not dismissed as wrong and a decision to act was made. Surely this was the first sin, not the action that resulted from it.
A lot of info has come across and has given me a broader range of ideas. I have something to work with now and will be giving this a lot of thought.

It meant nothing. It was one of those things that (even then) the less observably bright adults mentioned to children. Stuff such as Father Christmas and the tooth fairy.
Wow, glad I am not a Christian. So far the outlook is not very good.
All those believers for all these centuries, is this the best that you can come up with?
Yes, I agree. I am reminded of a story told to me by a young colleague from Nepal. He told me that his mother spent all of her spare time at the local Buddhist temple. People often approached her seeking advice or an opinion. The fact was that she knew virtually nothing of Buddhism, she just...
I have mentioned in various posts why I parted from Christianity. However, one thing just continues to bug me -the Trinity. It is to me the weirdest thing imaginable, but it is accepted by millions, most of whom I believe are as puzzled as me if they were honest.
It is a big subject so let us...
It is a coincidence that you should post this question. Something that I read earlier here got me thinking about why I parted from Christianity.
Some years ago I looked back on that and reviewed it. Christianity as I recall has aspects which would make a good contemplative and communal faith...
