Do I think that the majority of the people on this planet are on a rock whipping through space and the products of Billions of years of evolution?
Yes.
I like this... next question. :)
Ummm... am I missing something?
The "first day of the week" in Luke 24:1 is SUNDAY... the Sabbath.
... also good to remember that Christians were celebrating a Sunday Sabbath BEFORE Luke was even written. Kinda hard to interpret the Scriptures and ignore the historical reality.
Guess I don't agree with your premise... I don't think this world, while imperfect, is a place of cruelty etc etc..
When I hear people whine about floods, famine, etc. I feel their pain, but just don't agree that things like that "tip the scales" towards the world being a bad place.
I...
Hiya all... cool thread.
My opinion is that when one is trying to determine the meaning of a verse/doctrine sometime it helps to see what the 1st generation of the nascent church believed. "Dueling Bible verses" is a fun pastime, but of little value when seeking the truth methinks... you can...
Gotcha.... I assume you meant to include "adult" in your explaination... hope so.
Hard to discuss this topic with someone without any moral foundation... without one, I would agree that celibacy is a rather odd practice.
Gotcha... we have differing definitions of what "dogma" means.....
It's not:
In general, doctrine is all Church teaching in matters of faith and morals. Dogma is more narrowly defined as that part of doctrine which has been divinely revealed and which the Church has formally defined and...
I know that... but my understanding is that it was NEVER tied to a dogma, but was always reffered to as a "gift" or the like...
???
Most early Bishops were married.... and while some might argue that celibacy is the objectively superior state, this does not mean that it is for everyone...
What is the dogma behind this practice?
I've only heard of celibacy referred to as a "sign" of devotion to Christ (CCC#1579) and don't remember it being tied to any specific "dogma" or theological foundation....
Yep...
Yep again... thus my point about it not being "forced" upon anyone. The Sacrament of Marriage is of the same "standing" as the Sacrament of Holy Orders, so I don't think anyone who chooses not to become a priest because celibacy is an obstacle is "missing" or "lacking" anything...
After reading your post (#335) and the blather it contained, I was hoping you'd actually do a bit more balanced research on the subject... that's all I meant.
Peace be with you.

Not sure what you mean by "power to intervene", but that means something different to many people.
Ummm.... I'd be happy to explain it in full, but the short answer is that we believe that Christ set up the Sacrament of Holy Orders and we're not the type to question the boss. :)
Once a year...
I get ya... but still miss the point: they certainly are bad fruit, but it is still my contention that these are human errors and do not reflect "error" or the "evil" of the theology.
