famous quote from the Bhagavad Gita ?

Hi I don't believe it is a direct quote (as I don't recognise the translation) but rather a summation of the ideas from Chapter 2 which talks about the Soul or Atman being eternal and never subject to change or destruction, versus the body (and mind) which is subject to change and destruction...

    Bhagavad gita questions

Welcome to the forum Makropo I have never seen this explanation or story in the Bhagavad Gita and I am very surprised and pleased you have raised it as a concern. Vrindavana Das has provided a good explanation of duty and ahimsa with respect to the warrior class, of which Arjuna belonged...

    What if?

Namaste George My view is that there is nothing to fear in moksha. Fear and craving are both emotions or ideas which arise in Divine Consciousness. So although these are valid question they are only relatively real, that is real as long as they last and not something which cannot stop...

    Enlightenment

Namaste Bhairava Take a look at Page 56 - 57, starting at the bottom of 56, you may see it is related to the sanskrit word mama. I hope you have the same edition. It's too late here for more investigation, time permitting I would be happy to do some reading and compare notes. :) Well done on...

    Mantras without initiation?

You are completely right, Vinayaka. Hinduism is an interfaith of different path or dharmas. That is what new commers need to understand to be able to make a choice and enjoy it fully. :)

    Mantras without initiation?

You have raised some important points, Jainarayan In contrast to your experience I have never come across any reason to not chant 'om'. My impression is that this all comes down to Sampradya and Guru successions more than a universal law. It is confusing for people new to Hinduism and I...

    Hurting the body ?

Aum Namah Shivaya, JayaBholenath. This isn't karma, it is the gunas. There are two forces: Karma and Prakriti. Prakriti consists of Gunas and it is the Gunas which make you suffer and hurt. You are Atma which is known as sat-chit-ananda. MahaDev is compassion and love.

    Mantras without initiation?

Agreed, there is a dislike coming from the idea that we don't have direct relationship with God, or that there is some kind of inequality. However inequality is natural or exist in nature. I wonder sometimes if I have the wrong impression of these things due to how my society dictates, for...

    Mantras without initiation?

I agree Gaura The benefit of a Guru is that they can remove doubt which may not be removed through scripture etc. I do not hold that there is any mantra which explicitly requires a Guru to make it move valuable, other than a Guru will remove any doubt.

My suggestion is to continue to study Hasidic Judaism, such as the Tanya, as it is some similarities to Hindu theology it can help bring the gap.

Why is the assumption made that believing in God/a god means believing in a holy book?

Hi Matthias My understanding is that God reveals Himself to mankind. So a holy books is a record of that revelation. It is a requirement more than an assumption in some cases because man must refer to the revelation to know Him (or hear someone who knows the revelation).

How do I find a job?

I would suggest putting a suit and tie on, going to each agency in your city/town with a copy of your CV and try to speak to them. Try to get any job, be open and willing, then fine tune it after that.
