But you dont see renewables as viable yet ? what would need to change to change that? more importantly how do we get there ?
I don't say which renewables are ready (without gov subsidy) for prime time.
That's above my pay grade.
Multiple things will drive practicality.....
- Easing regulatory hurdles. (Locally, wind turbines are prohibited.)
- Better PV cells, eg, longer life, higher efficiency, lower cost.
- Emerging technologies
It's hard to make predictions, but we should do what we can to encourage.

Would that include government incentives like subsidies or carbon taxes . something that would send clear signals to the market that it's safe to invest in renewables?

These are things that need to happen to encourage enterprises to compete.

Not that am I can of the idea but I might support it...allowing oil drilling here in the USA and using the funds to finance the innovation and infrastructure for green tech and renewable.

This would also be good geologically imo.

If we want to argue a free market model without any government subsidies, I am for it. But that needs to be across the board. That is, remove tax breaks for the oil/coal industries, remove all legislation that prevents competition, etc.

Depends where those drilling locations are. If it is in the middle of Yellowstone, I would be opposed. But if it is in a desert somewhere in Arizona? I would be more inclined to agree.

Yes, although I see much potential for mischief in government's deciding which
companies & solutions to subsidize. They should put me in charge of it.

How do you think we go about bringing those things to fruition ? would you write your state and Congressional elected representatives ? we probably need more then that, what do you think ?

Also the way we shop matters too.

Yes.
But as long as we're proposing more incentives, we should be cautious.
I would be more in favor of removing the existing incentives from finite resources (but that's just me being biased :p). But so long as they do exist, I would like to see some more tossed in the way of energy solutions that make sense in the long term. Instead of short-term profits.

What to do....what to do.....
Read, learn, think....then act as one sees fit.
There are many things to do, as you suggest.
What calls to you?
I'm working conservation at my properties.

A few years ago the energy sector was deregulated , was that good or bad for the clean energy movement ?

So what would good incentives look like and what would bad ones look like?
Good incentives for market based solutions....
- Reduce income & property tax burdens on capital expenditures to conskerve energy.
- Increase taxes on non-renewable energy supplies. (These could be offset by reductions in income & property taxes.)

I think we need change politically and industrially .

More of what we can do collectively then individually. Though we need to latter to. what would you support and help work on with me?

So the question is how do we generate to.be political will to do that?

I have fears about the time table left to act. What do you think on that?

We're doing that now, ie, inspiring each other.
Alas, I don't see any politicians with energy policies I like.

I have fears about the time table left to act. What do you think on that?
Fear doesn't do one any good.
Do what you think is right, & let that be satisfying.
