I am pretty ignorant with this whole activism thing. :D If I walk into a local officials office, I won't be able to just kick the door in and see him/her, right? There will be channels/staffers in the way. What gets you the best results?

@Revoltingest I think another area in which you could have an important impact via your purchasing power is in good. eat and shop locally . Do you support farmer markets and co opts etc.

Mrs Revolt buys the food, & I don't interfere.
But I buy efficiently....used products, minimizing trips.

It would definitely be a difficult but worthy task.

How about if we add a fee to the selling price of fossil fuels equal to the cost of removing and sequestering the waste products from the atmosphere?
The reason that fossil fuels appear to be cheaper than sustainable fuels is that nobody bothers with waste management.
That's a huge subsidy.

Then you support my proposal for a big tax increase on fossil fuels?
How libertarian of you!
I'd do the same for nuclear, which has more actual taxpayer "subsidy".

Until we can ditch fossil fuels entirely, here is an old but emerging (oxymoronic, eh?)
technology I've long wanted.....
Plug and play units expand US market for small-scale CHP
It offers several benefits....
- Inherently greater thermodynamic efficiency than central electrical power generation.
- Lower cost/benefit ratio.
- Decentralization has strategic benefits in war or other catastrophe.

I hope fusion power becomes a practical reality soon. Whatever it takes IMO.
I agree.
But it's a long long way off.
Even back in the 60s, a local company, KMS Fusion, had been working on it.
Modern attempts are still far from sustainability. Capital costs also look daunting.
But some day.....
