These are always fun to do every once in a while. Here's the latest Mystic rendition of random facts:
1) I'm still 4'11". Haven't grown. Haven't shrunk. Love my height, too.
2) My husband and I met at a karaoke party, where the first thing I ever said to him when we met was a loud accusation that he spiked my drink with a date rape drug. He could probably tell you that this is pretty much the dynamic of our entire relationship and marriage for the past ten years.
3) I'm a trained dancer, and have a Bachelors Degree in Dance Specialization/Choreography/Performance as well as graduate work in Laban Movement Analysis and the Bartenieff Fundamentals. I'm a Certified Movement Analyst, so I can notate your movement and give you an assessment of movement patterns, as well as tension blocks and where your strengths lie in body mechanics and dynamics.
4) I'm also a trained singer and musician - although I haven't played the piano for an audience for over 20 years. I took Classical and Jazz piano, accompanied for many different choirs and shows...and I've sung in several competitions (no, not American Idol, not my brand of competition). I earned First Superiors at the state level when I was 13.
5) I have four children - two of which I gave birth to - and our 13 year old son, Tyler, is on the Autism Spectrum.
6) I am a survivor of Anorexia Nervosa, and it's a mission in my life to see the numbers of eating disorders severely decrease in the world of professional dance. The national average, I think, is 1 in 100 people who suffer from an eating disorder. In dance, the number is 1 in 5. It's shocking. So I aim to help in changing that. For myself, I still battle every single day to make sure that I eat. It's just something I have come to terms with that the disease will never win again.
7) My income has changed drastically over the course of a few months. I used to be considered in poverty with my income as a performance artist. I am now outearning my husband as an entrepreneur. I've never made this kind of money before, so it's cool to finally pay down my hospital bills and make a HUGE dent in my debts.
8) I have itty bitty hands and feet. Like REALLY itty bitty.
9) I have an overwhelming fear of balloons. It isn't just the fear of them popping, but simply them hanging up on those strings or ribbons. I dunno.....I start sweating and getting knots in my stomach whenever I see a balloon in the same room as me.
10) My husband and I have an open marriage. Funny thing is, we're both too busy to really explore it as much as we've talked about. So, currently, I'm having an affair with my career. And he's picked up the slack at home with chores and dinners and raising teenagers.
11) I am 38, but the other night when Steve and I went out to dinner for Valentine's Day, I was carded when I ordered a drink. Huzzah!
12) I know how to make a LOT of kitchen staples from scratch. From peanut butter, to sandwich bread, to yogurt, to sour cream, to grape jelly, to lemonade (I make the best in the world), to ice cream, etc. When we were super poor, I got really creative with eating great on a shoestring budget.
13) Steve and I are actively planning our homestead once we find the land we want to live on. We'll have our own ecosystem that is self-sufficient....and we're getting more excited as we get closer to our goal.
14) Before I decided on a career in dance, I was studying to be a chemical engineer. I was once a math whiz, but I've been out of practice for a LONG time. But still - quite a career leap, eh?
15) I've been on television three times, all interviews at the local news stations. And I despised being interviewed each and every time. I know they're trying to get soundbites and all, but I want to throw a shoe and scream at just how stupid the questions are. Being on TV is not anywhere near as glamorous as it sounds.
