What hope for Science when 40% of americans believe the world was created 6000 years ago. You know how it goes, its start off with a reasonable figure and ends up ridiculous, but this is what we are told in Australia. Is it true?

Ya, that seems about right, but what has that got to do with our science, jimdene? I mean, America is doing just fine in all fields of science; much better then the majority of other nations. So if there is some type of criticism on our scientific community could you perhaps get to it?

Here is the Gallup poll link for views on creationism: Evolution, Creationism, Intelligent Design

I guess evolution, big bang and all that are the only forms of science for some. ;)
But I was never asked what I believe in by anyone so I don't think they could have asked every single American about this. I mean don't we have something like 230 million or whatever living here? ;)

"230 million or whatever living here?"

It is a bit above 300 million.

Personally, I have difficulty believing this number is accurate. My guess is that someone is playing a numbers games gleaned from seemingly related statistics. Though it might be the company I keep, I have never met a person who believes the earth is 6000 years old, in person.

Who cares about that number to show how stupid we are.

Heck, two things show how incredibly dumb we are as a nation.

1) We kick gays out of the military for being gay. That's very dumb.

2) Even worse. Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Charlie Rangel, Saxby Chambliss, Orrin Hatch, John Murtha and the rest of the cast of Gilligan's Island are consistently voted into office term after term after term after term..........how dumb is that. Murtha's finally gone because he died!

Only the best most reliable source, I got it off the back of a Crackerjack box.

I took your advice and googled it, I got a hit so I guess it must be true

What I find so interesting is that 13% of Americans believe in evolution and that the earth is 6000 years old
