It is "one" of the places where the Gilgamesh Ark story came from.

This is truly classic.its funny, but for so many years critics of the bible have raved about the Gilgamesh epic and how its the oldest ark story so it must be where the hebrews got the story from.
now we learn that there's an older story! This is why I dont put too much stock in the views and opinions of bible critics...they always get proved wrong down the track.

Clearly not, but you sure won't find me raiding your refrigerator any time in the foreseeable future.Tell me, has the expiration date on the other two cartons changed as a result of finding an even older one? Or the one that expired last week still older than the one that's still good?

ingledsva said:Actually they don't say that, nor were they proved wrong. They point out that there are far older versions from other areas - like the Gilgamesh story - which show that the Hebrew version is newer - and probably from these older sources.
The new cuneiform find, just becomes the oldest to date.
at least now we wont have to hear, "the gilgamesh epic is older then the bible and thats where the jews got their story of a flood from"
now we'll hear "the Mesopotamia tablet, which is older then Gilgamesh epic, which is older then bible, and thats where the jews got their story of a flood from"
Yay for archaeology
Therefore?

That's a good point. Ever since prehistory, ideals and even technology have been circulating around the world, occasionally with a local twist, sometimes even with an exceptionally potent renovation or upgrade. It is an interesting and essential phenomenon to study. That's how legends and fables work; they were inspired by earlier tales, and those tales were inspired by even earlier tales, etc. Nothing to huff and puff about, that's just how it is.
Isn't this what is to be expected if it actually took place?

How were they proved wrong? We knew that A came from B, now we know that B came from C, so what's the issue?
everyones knowledge is incomplete...even the so called scholars and experts. No one can say they have the full story of anything because no one does.
So we dont know or understand anything at all about the past?
