What is the point to the brain doing this?

Obviously when the brain evolved the ability to differentiate between "I" and "they" it increased the chances of survival for the organism.

We have been through all this before, and it is clear that you are only interested in proseltyzing your new-age dogma, none of which you can actually substantiate. I don't follow. I see the ability for organisms to distinguish between "I" and "you" as a natural result of evolution and natural selection. Papers like the one you linked to recently are just a natural result of human brains trying to understand how they themselves work.
