Age of the earth

But how do you know "God" said it? The book claims god said lots of things, but how do you know the book's claims are accurate?
Because the bible claims it's God's word and is true. If there was another book or some other "evidence" to prove the the book is true. Then that evidence would be superior to the bible.

Start here -> The Age of the Earth

I don't see how that shows that the earth is 4.5billion years old? And I've read that radiometric dating isn't necessarily accurate because it makes the assumption that the amount of certain elements in our atmosphere are the same as they were thousands of years ago?

So, you know the Bible is true because it's God's word, and you know it's God's word because the Bible says so, and you know the Bible is true because it's God's word, and....

Did you read the whole thing? The radiometric objection is addressed in that paper.

At least 4.5 billion years old, because of historical evidence known so far, but I think it could be older, simply because we find more history within time.

becuause you dont have a clue how the bible was written, you dont understand the culture that wrote it, and you have no kowledge of proper interpretation of ancient text to even begin to say it was written literally.

basically you take beautiful work and ruin it with a literal view it was never intended to be.

I think I have a pretty good interpretation of it, and I know alot about ancient cultures. How am I interpretting it incorrectly? Doesn't the bible say God created the world in 6days and rested on the 7th, and according to biblical chronology about 3,000 years passed from Adam to Moses. And Moses lived around the time of the new kingdom which would've been around 1200 B.C. Where am I "incorrect" in my interpretation?

Yeah I guess it's circular reasoning, but it's also a good point. And I mean that it was inspired by God and everything it teaches is how God wants us to live our lives, all the stories in it really happened, it tells us how to receive eternal life and a home in heaven with God, and it teaches us all we need to know about him:)

Yet it teaches nothing about geology, astrophysics, chemistry, etc...

As Galileo Galileo said;

"I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."

But is radiometric dating really accurate. I thought it made certain assumptions about earth's atmosphere that can't be proven?

We got to the Moon on such "assumptions". Our military is the finest in the world because of its technology because of such "assumptions". Our weather reporting system, high level of technology (do you have a computer, an iPod or cell phone?) because of such assumptions. Is it so hard to think the same people who built your MP3 player are stupid about dating rocks? It's science. Scroll through links at NASA - Home

Go out tonight and look at the Moon. What time is sunset where you are? Don't know? Go here Intellicast - Local and National Weather Forecast, Radar, Maps and Severe Report How do they know what time sunset is? How does NASA know the Moon is going to be a little bigger than usual tonight? Because of the Scientific Method. Science is a tool of knowledge. Please don't deny it.

If you believe in God and you believe God gave us brains, then doesn't it fit that God expects us to use our brains and study the Universe which was created?

I'm not saying scientists are stupid(I apologize if it came across that way) They're incredible and I'm VERY greatful for all the stuff they've contributed to society. Also I respect the scientific method, and I agree God wants us to study the universe he created. However we should base all our beliefs about the world on what the bible says. And according to it this planet is only about 6,000yrs old. The view of an old earth isn't biblical.

If we base our scientific knowledge on the bible, we would think Pi=3, and no engineering involving a curved line or surface would work.
