My post was more specifically about and to Alan Jackson than "Americans in general".

But anyway... ;)

I can see my sentiment surely was correct. :D

We want Detroit! :D

Ooh! Yeah! Tigers ROCK!!!

Go Tigers!!! :cheer:

But hey...they aren't supposed to win until 2008. Didn't you know they only win every 20 years, on the dot?

I was there in '68 and '88...just waiting for '08!

They'd better not win early -- I haven't got any tickets!

Well then ....who's favored to win the World Series this year? :baseball:

I bow to your superior frubalility. And tact. :D

Due to the circumstances of my marriage, I am obligated to root for the Orioles from now until death do us part. Part of the pre-nup.

If you are up on world politics you can potentially see a increase in gas prices before it happens (say one nation randomly attacks another that supplies oil to America).

Knowing ahead of time when oil prices are going up/down is good. =)
Ahhh... so you can beat everyone else in your neighbourhood to the gas pumps.

There is occassionally a Canadian team involved.

Hehehe, really? That just sounds funny. It's like soccer here. We have the Adriatic Cup - and it's practically all Croatia, but it's called Adriatic Cup because once every few centuries a Slovenian or Bosnian team is good enough.

Why do they call it the World Series?
Kinda dim name, considering other countries play baseball now, ain't it?

At one time the name fit, when we were the only one's playing baseball.

And together we make up the whole world. :D

(...waits for the PMs about that one. ;))

LOL I'm not that sensitive, or that eager to get into a conflict with someone about something irrelevent to what they actually said.

But I do have a joke for you...

How many Bosnians does it take to change a lightbulb?

None, he'll just sit around in darkness until the Germans change it for him.

How many Americans does it take?

None, he just holds the light in the socket and waits for the world to revolve around him.

:D

Someone should start a thread on lightbulb changing jokes. I would do it, but I'm an American.

It's huge in Japan. I've seen US soldiers in Bosnia having their own tournaments.

They actually LOVE our sports though, it's amazing. I should try to find a video or some pictures. Basketball is, by far, the most popular sport in Bosnia - followed by soccer (football, in Europe). And the US soldiers love our basketball cup. They even have their own favorite teams and everything, they're really into it.

There's US soldiers in this clip, actually, somewhere. I remember there was a controversy about it because they're supposed to wear their uniforms at ALL times in Sarajevo and weren't here:

Congratulations. A poll of just over 500 people specifically aimed at 18-24 year olds is representative of the entire American population. Look. I personally do believe that most people, the world over, generally don't really care much about what goes on outside their own lives.

However, I don't take an asinine five year old song and imply the stupidity of a whole class of people just to tout my own level of intelligence.
So, er, are you saying the US knows just as much about world politics as the rest of the world? My poll shows that the United States people age 18 to 24 don't know about world affairs, if you want to say the public as a whole knows about world affairs please do offer the poll...

Also, from what I read... the OP only refered to Mr Jackson, not to Americans.

Actually, I've mentioned America positively here far more often than I've mentioned it negatively. For most the debates I've participated in, this is a mute point since both sides of the arguement were represented by Americans - thus whichever view you hold, you're siding with the United States.

I've also talked about my own country and my own people negatively, or negative aspects of both at the very least. But this right-wing, 'sit down and shut up' style of interacting with other people is what's getting old. ;)

And PS: That's not a bad deal. ;) Likewise to you, and with that - however - my sympathies.
