I was reading a travel guide for American soldiers coming to Bosnia, a real one - not the joke one I posted.

One of them actually said: Be careful when asking directions. In Bosnian society it is considered extremely impolite to say, "I don't know".

I take it their information about Bosnian society was a bit...off?

There is something about the trend in this thread that is really bothering me. A lot of people seem to be hell bent on attack Mila because she's using this song to paint all Americans with a broad brush of ignorance. To those of you who feel that way, I would invite you to actually read the OP.
I did, and I couldn't find one statement that I could easily peg as such a broad brush statement. I don't even see a hint of that intention anywhere. So, would someone care to enlighten me before you continue to bunch your panties?

But this is war, this is the men and women in uniform men like Alan Jackson claim to support - yet probably couldn't even find on a map. That's horrible and shameful.

I think it's absolutely undefensible.

These two comments along with the OP probably started it off for some. At least it did for me. But, for me mostly I was irked because of the criticism on 911. I wouldn't have been so angry if it were done before or after that day. I just see it as disrespectful to criticize Americans and American music on 911.

Well, there's the title of the thread for one thing. And that it was posted on the 9/11 anniversary. And the implication that we should all be ashamed...because a country and western singer put a humble lyric in a song about this tragedy. And when these things were pointed out, and multiple openings for mellowing on her message were offered, there was a new condescending attitude and justification for further anti-American remarks.

Anyhow, that's how it looks from where I sit.

That doesn't answer my question though. Unless you don't feel that the OP was intended to be a broad brush statement.

There is absolutely nothing in the post if you really look at it that implies that all Americans are ignorant as so many have been suggesting. I didn't see anything condecending or anti-american about it at all. If someone says something that offends me, I would consider it more important to know thier intentions than continue being offended for the sake of it.

And, implications are interpretations, and anybody can interpret it differently. Show me exactly where it is clear that the OP is intending to be anti-american, and states that all americans are ignorant.

The OP and her comments I highlighted above. Some people dont take kindly to being told they are shameful and horrible for not knowing something. Can't you understand that?

Look, I'm not the only one who found fault with the way she communicates...and it's happened before in a Lebanon thread plus other threads. She has a tendency to criticize Americans.....and unfairly. Plus, some of her comments in this thread have been edited out. A couple of her posts look different today.

********* MOD POST ***********

Alright, Friends, since we've now descended into talking about people as if they are not here, it's time to shut this thread down for mod review.

It's unfortunate, because it looked like we might actually be able to make a decent discussion of it.
