American Athiests now have their own TV-Channel

Slightly different take on it from me. I do kinda worry that we seem to be increasingly ring-fencing atheism.

Let's say, for sake of argument, that this tv channel is amazingly successful. Whatever it shows becomes a more generally accepted view of what atheism is. Which always strikes me as a kinda weird concept, to be honest.

Just like commercial success of Dawkins, et al, has led to some sort of linking of atheism with his particular world views.

Nope, no hard scientific evidence to back that up. I'm going rogue, and working off intuition...
;)

(ps. and whilst I said 'worry', I certainly won't be losing a wink of sleep over this. Just something that crossed my mind as reading OP)

Now that the Atheists are running a TV Channel representing the official version of Atheism; it will be easier to refute basis of Atheism with reference to it.

I think instead of Atheism it will be focusing on Anti-Theism.

"Let's see which way the camel sits" with the load of Atheism TV on its back.

Television is not books. Television is an expensive venture and the audience for it is limited. How are they going to monetize it and attract advertisers and drum up revenue?

I think if the books sell surely the movies will. Not to mention all the nay sayers that watch it so they can bash it and tell people why they shouldn't watch it.

Like your opinion means anything.

Means about the same as yours. Except my opinion is most likely backed up by the raw truth. This whole hyped up "Atheist TV" is not actually a real TV channel, it is an internet stream just like the other thousands of atheist internet streams out there. It's insignificant like all the rest. Just another bit of noise that will be drown out in cacophony that is the internet. It's no big deal.

Indeed, the percentage of atheists will continue to grow regardless of whether this channel exists or not.

That's not truth, it's speculation.

There are a good number of Rokus out there in the world thanks to Netflix which means that all those people will have immediate, convenient access to this channel as soon as it launches. Depending on the programming, it could have appeal to a much wider range of people than a single podcast, YouTube channel, ect. that features one or two personalities. Maybe someone doesn't like watching the amazing atheist because they think he's annoying but they enjoy the atheist experience hosts much more, this channel could bring people from all different atheistic walks of life together in one place. Not to mention, if it does well on the Roku, it could expand to other platforms in the future.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I see a role like this for atheist TV shows, if only to remind those atheists who are surrounded by theists that they aren't as alone as they feel like they are.

This is, in my opinion, perhaps the best thing about having a TV channel dedicated to Atheists and Atheism. I've always kind of taken for granted that Atheism is a common position where I live. I imagine living somewhere in which Atheism is roughly equated with evil could be very isolating.

Like others have mentioned though, the success of the channel and whether it will be an overall positive or negative thing for Atheists will depend on what they broadcast. Here's hoping they show some material from prominent Atheist comedians.

Just curious...

If it's not a big deal, why do you care to keep saying it isn't a big deal?

What? Be inconsistent, hypocritical, ironical, and a childish nuisance?

Yes, we're already aware of that.

Actually no. I just wish some atheist would come back down to earth and reality and realize that this is not some major victory against religion. If I have to burst their bubble then so be it. It's far better for them to accept reality than go around believing in imaginary crap...right?

Ah, imaginary crap like these fictional atheists you've invented to rage against.

Imaginary crap... you mean like your straw man atheist stereotype? Because from where I sit, it seems that the only atheist calling this "some major victory against religion" is the imaginary atheist that resides in your head.
