An honest question for women ...

Seriously, though, a man will never be able to fully enjoy a woman until he also subjectifies her. There must be a union between the inner and the outer, the subject and the object, masculine and feminine, etc.

Yay for maturity! :highfive:

Well stated.

I have a question. Why is it that a woman suddenly becomes a hypocrite for complaining about being sexually objectified just because she happens to be wearing a mini skirt or a top that exposes some cleavage? Do the people who think a woman like this is a hypocrite think she is dressing this way because she secretly wants to be sexually objectified or something? Seriously I don't get it.

I mean I certainly understand many women do sometimes jump the gun in accusing someone of objectifying them (I don't consider a quick knee jerk glance to be objectification) but that still doesn't make it hypocritical or deliberately manipulative. This sort of attitude actually strikes me as a "blame the victim" scenario.

As for the OP I would be insulted regardless. Why would the guy's appearance change how I feel about being objectified? Why would anyone think it would change how I feel?

I think it's in a man's nature to view a woman this way, especially if she is showing off her body. I think it is very hard for men to fight that instinct. Women need to understand that a man is going to feel lust by seeing her body.
I wouldn't call her a hypocrite for complaining, I'd just call her ignorant. I don't think women really understand what it's like to be a man.

A man might have trouble controlling his thoughts and feelings in this regard, but he can certainly control his actions. I'm not making excuses for bad behaviour.

Not all men. The mature grown up ones are able to see much more than just her body. ;)

I think it is HUMAN nature to look at things that have obviously been put out on display.

It is much likened to a store owner complaining that people are looking at his window display.

Au contraire....looking at something is not the same thing as objectifying somebody.

Sunstone mentioned before that objectifying is reducing somebody down to just their one physical feature or set of features.

One doesn't have to yell out "Hey, shawty! Come and put them ******* on my face and call it a date!" if they see something they like.

Hmmm.

Seems I should look up the definition of objectify....

Just because a man looks at a woman he finds attractive and feels lust for her doesn't mean he's sexually objectifying her.

Yes feeling lust is natural on both sides, however mentally reducing someone to nothing more than a sex toy is not natural, it's learned.

I am more disappointed with the nature of human males than offended by it.
I am offended though, when a guy puts on the act, thinking I'm stupid enough to actually believe he thinks I'm special when it's as clear as day that he just wants sex.

Men are just a disappointment. I wish I was a lesbian.

That's grossly unfair. I'm programmed to want to reproduce, and as a consequence am a slave to that desire. Judging the entirety of us by one horndog with poor self control is kinda mean. I don't judge every woman's appetite by the lady at the buffet eating seven deserts.

PS I wish I were a lesbian, too. I would be the trampiest lesbian ever! :D
