Ancient Aliens - Gods

So the History channel is using physical things, factual information about ancient people. Do you people have no respect for science and history?
I find it disgusting that pseudo-scientists handicap the work archaeologists do in the region I live in, I also find it disgusting that people believe that garbage about this region I live in, no one here believes in space men, or ancient aliens, people here tend to respect the thousands year old traditions and the history of this region to the point that no one will accept this kind of unacademic rubbish except for the very very few, and they are mostly shunned away by the rest of the society.

I love this show. People can say what they want about me... I'm not going to hide from it anymore. I believe a lot of what this show says... I pondered about a lot of the things they say in the show before it was ever aired. I'm super happy it's finally on the History Channel now (I now don't feel so alone in my thoughts). I talk to a ton of people at my work about it and we all love it.
I agree. I am also glad I can create threads that get such positive feedback. ;)

 just not every soi disant charlatan scientist and historian looking to sell a book or plug a show.
Amazing how some people will believe just about anything to bring some spice into their life.
really what happened to a decent night out? now we need to believe that ETs built our ancient cities?

I've heard this many times and I always assumed it was true but I have never seen and have yet to find any actual poll or study that confirms it. The earliest reference I can find online is Uncle John's Bathroom Reader vol. 2 (p. 145- I went to Borders during my lunch break and looked it up... That is kinda sad.) published in 1989 and it doesn't cite its source. The 1% less cynical part of me wonders if it's an urban legend, the 99% of me that is cynical just assumes it to be a fact.

Maybe Uncle John's Bathroom Reader is peer reviewed.

This has information on it:
Detjen, J. (1995). The media's role in science education: The public is interested in news about science and the environment. BioScience, (Supplement), S58-S63.

But for whatever **** reason I can't find the full text to get the exact figure. However, reviewers of this piece noted that Detjen observed "few Americans even know that the sun is a star," as well as believe electrons are larger than atoms, didn't know what molecules are, and other absurd things.

Carl Sagan noted this in Demon-Haunted World... that some people believe in a lot of pseudoscience/pseudohistory because it's exciting to.

That’s one thing I’ve come to love about this forum, the free and friendly debate you find here. No degrading anyone’s beliefs or attacking anyone’s intelligence.
BTW, I love all the shows on conspiracy theories, aliens and etc. What gets me about all of them is the way the mainstream experts are so positive their position is the truth. I don’t buy half of the stuff on the shows but I enjoy them all the same.

Of course you are right, but really, aren't the basic things in life more exciting? looking at a nice woman? having a pint? reading a decent book about real problems? even the evening news contain much more 'excitement'.

Does anyone else believe in Ancient Aliens?

It's highly unlikely.

IMO, it's really better to just listen to the real theories that are actually based on facts, as those are far more likely.

Well I am glad that got all of the bias out of everyone’s system. Because all I have heard so far is ……:sad4::sad4::sad4::sad4:
I saw the myth busters when they busted the skeptics on the moon landing. I bet you all :sad4::sad::sad4: all over that too. “Wahh! Why must it be true…. Science is suppose to bust myths not buy into them.” Good thing tears can’t travel over the internet, my computer would have short circuited and deep fried by now. “Wahh! Those Americans with their histories channels and sciencesss….” And I'm pretty sure everyone knows the sun is star.

So the History channel is using physical things, factual information about ancient people. Do you people have no respect for science and history?

...where are you seeing the tears? I always knew that people really went to the moon; I never needed Mythbusters to know that.

I really don't understand where you're seeing the whining. Unless you're talking about that one person who does believe.

I grew up all around science, with shows like Bill Nye, Magic School Bus, etc. I love science. History, not so much. (But that's just because it's really hard to get real history these days.)

I sincerely doubt anyone has based their belief system on any tv show that isn't Star Trek.

Yep. Same with Discovery Channel.

A lot of channels that used to be concerned with facts and quality shows have since turned to pseudoscience/pseudohistory tripe, likely becuase they realized Americans eat that **** like candy and half of them don't even know the Sun is a star or that its name is Sol.

And SYFY has been taken over by "Ghosthunters". That's a real "fact" based show there. wink wink.

Me too! Bill Nye use to be my favorite. Use to watch him every morning before i headed off to the torture chamber they call public schooling.

Just maybe
I watched 'Ancient Aliens' on History on Sunday evening with an open mind.
They mentioned a place in South America where the rocks at an ancient site fit together like a Jigsaw puzzle.....so perfectly.
They said perhaps the rocks were melted at 3000 degrees and moulded into shape.
But they said the technology for reaching such high temperatures wasn't available at that time (don't know how old the site was).
So they concluded that ancient aliens must have provided the technology!
How hard is this for someone in the know to disprove?

Silver

I agree. Some of it is fascinating. After-all if it wasn't for the imagination and enginuity how would people be creative. I mean do you really think an airplane came about because people actually thought they could fly.:sarcastic

First Nostradamus, now this... the History Channel has stopped even pretending to be factual, hasn't it?

Well, at least we still have books. We can always go to the library or a book store where they still put fiction in the fiction section and non-fiction in the non-fiction section.

Having imagination is fine, but there is a point were people get carried away. I mean airplanes don't fly on imagination, that took real science.

These ideas are based on modern prejudice against "primitive" people. Clearly Native Americans, Egyptians and the like are simply too stupid to have figured out things "modern" people like the Romans did.

Clearly the only way for such stupid people to have accomplished so much is to have ET beam down and teach those brutes to be civilized and clever. :sarcastic

Otherwise I find the evidence to be completely lacking and most of it is ad hock guesswork and ignorance of the cultures said to show alien contact.
