Anti-gay baker now takes stand against birthdays for trans people

And what if I take offense at the listener and not the request? So what? Suppose I had no predisposition to play or not play Brown Sugar but some rednecked Klansman in full garb asks me to play it because, at least in his mind, it glorifies a white slave owner and suggests that the young slave girl is simply an object of sexual pleasure for the white men. Suppose I refuse to play it then? Should that cretin be able to force me to play it?
OMG!
I have never paid that much attention to 60's rock lyrics.
Gold coast slave ship bound for cotton fields,
Sold in a market down in new orleans.
Scarred old slaver know he's doin alright.
Hear him whip the women just around midnight.
Ah brown sugar how come you taste so good
Ew!
I definitely understand why you don't want to sing that song.

What? I was saying creators, artists, painters, writers, anyone who provides customized special service, should be able to decide for what purposes they will provide such service.

Ooooooh... That kind of creator. :). Not the "creator."

LOL

Alright... Should a Christian doctor refuse patients because of his religious beliefs?

Wonder how many cakes this guy has baked and decorated for gay, lesbian and transgendered and never even knew it?
That is a good question and it brings up an important point. Jack Phillips sold cakes and baked items to anyone. He served everyone. Yet, he chose not to make custom cakes specifically designed to celebrate things he could not endorse according to his faith and conscience.

It doesn't matter who the person is. Assuming his request isn't against the law, the same respect should be showed to him as would a child or Catholic nun (case in point).

It highly depends on the situation. If it's a business than its on the costumers not you. If you are doing it just because you can be offended to whomever you want but we would hope that your offense doesn't cloud your interaction with other people.

It's discrimination to deny the listener X because you are offended. It's not when you tell then upfront your audience so costumers who offend you will know not to get service from you.

@BSM1

Wow. I like the brown sugar beat but when I read the lyrics, wow.

But, a song isn't a person. It's one thing to chose not to play a song, it's another to deny the person to listen to any song you want to play him. Unless you make it clear as to what audience you are not offended and would play to, it's still considered discrimination.

I don’t understand how making a cake endorses anything. If you feed the homeless, are you endorsing homelessness? Same with a cake. I mean, I don’t particularly care if he makes the cake or not. I just don’t see why the cake is such a big issue.

You simultaneously state he made cakes for everyone and then state he did not for some people......

If he wants to limit his customer base and go out of business, that's his problem.

He should have, I believe, the right to refuse service to anybody he wants to, for any reason he wants to.

.................and we have the right to not shop in his store/use his services. I wouldn't buy anything from him, myself, because I don't like his bigotry.

However, I'm really tired of the way the politically correct want the government to enforce their opinions on people they disagree with.

Just...don't use his services.

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...

Which is great if there are comparable services available and accessible. But what happens when every shop has a "no gays allowed" sign?

What? Me worry?

Some enterprising individual will open that same business with a sign "All are welcomed". That's the beauty of a capitalistic society.

Cooler than most of you
I should start a temp agency that caters to white Christian males only. That way, I can descriminate against my employee/customers and only provide service to white Christian males, and my employer/customers who only want to hire white Christian males don't have to discriminate in their hiring practices! It's win-win!

But why stop there? I could even maintain a comprehensive list of employers who use my temp service so that everyone knows the 'right' businesses to go to.

Try getting a rezoning for your business when your market study says that the community can’t support another cake shop.

And good luck launching small when health and fire code requirements put a ton of fixed costs on your operation.

You don’t live in a fully capitalistic society. Without non-discrimination laws, there are still laws on the books that can make it very hard for a new business to establish itself in a competitive market, even when the incumbent competition is a bigoted *********.

I wonder if the baker would bake a cake for Donald Trump.

The bible says people should not commit adultery.
I don't think the bible forbids people to change their gender.
