Any Pro-Gun Liberals?

I'm kind of a classical liberal, I believe in people being allowed to own guns just as long as they aren't violent or racists. In fact, as an ex-Muslim who is now an atheist, the first thing I did was went out and got a gun so that I could protect myself, as the Koran says to kill apostates and there are probably people that are willing to do it.

I always have a Glock 9mm under the driver's seat of the van and always will.

Gun control is to me like abortion: if you don't believe in it, don't get one, and otherwise mind your own business.

The gun control panic by hunters, self-defense advocates, etc. stymied much social progress. People were tricked into voting against themselves and as a liberal i have to say it was our own dang fault.

Well I as a liberal support gun control, but ironically, the conservatives now support it too, or at least that NY senator does.

I would assume that most people would prefere a gun purely for protection against crime and this reflects on the threat level that person is feeling. For example a law abiding citizen living in Detroit is far more likely to feel the need to carry a weapon than the same person living in Beverly Hills.

Using this logic I would say the arguments for carry guns falls down to this.
How Progressed is your society?

I feel there is a clear trend in rates of education and the use of Personal weapons. (With exceptions obviously, some people are just over Zealous.)

I personally have an interest in guns but don't want to own one.
The only people I have ever seen with a weapon is the police and terrorists (Northern Ireland) & and can tell you exactly what I think of the level of education in the terrorist ranks.

The flaw in your argument is that the people in Beverly Hills simply pay private security to carry the guns for them... while the people of Detroit can't afford a private army to guard them.

People don't expect to have to use their gun, just like people don't expect to have to use a fire extinguisher or first aid kit, although they're useful to have in case of emergencies, regardless of how remote.

I've wondered about us classical liberals posting in this "Liberal Only".
Anyway, do you think racists should have less liberty than folk with other faults?

I lean liberal and am pro-gun. That doesn't mean I think there shouldn't be some regulation and lines drawn, but in general, yeah, guns.

im liberal and pro-gun

I think after a certain threshold of poverty and population density that guns no longer reduce crime, but make no impact. it is at this threshold that gun control should used. it won't reduce the number of violent crimes, but as guns are harder to come by it will reduce fatalities.

outside that poverty and density threashold though, guns galore! Also I think as far as firepower, the line is drawn after semi-auto burst fire assault rifles.

Naw, I'm against guns because if you want to fight, use your fists. When you advance, they will advance against your advancement, ad infinitum. It just makes death more easier.

let's see how that works against a mugger who has a crowbar in his hand and you have your fists. You will realize that they will go as high as possible right from the start. So is the nature of man. If you carry a big enough stick, so to speak, you often will never need to use it.

I'm in the UK, so no guns here (legally at least). I am pro gun but I think that we need to be careful before allowing people to have guns

You guys have stabbing problems according to Scroobius Pip. Based on my personal beliefs about population density and poverty, it might be be worth it to reduce crime first before introducing guns. Not to say that you are all poor, but I would think that such a tiny island would run out of space.

I mean, if the violent crime hasn't gone down since guns were outlawed, then that indicates that guns were not the problem. However, in such a situation it still is probably a good idea to keep guns off the streets, least those stabbings become shootings, increasing fatalities.

Also I apologize if I say anything incorrect, I am just a dumb American and have no idea what is is really like in Britain.

We have too many idiots here. That's all you really need to know. Then again I guess America has the same problem.

I'm not sure where the problem is at the moment but I think overpopulation is one of the causes as well as gang culture and youth unemployment. BBC News - Youth unemployment link to immigration rise questioned

I didn't say you can't use anything else as a weapon such as a crowbar, just no making or selling them

It's easier to kill a lot of people in a very short amount of time with a gun.

That is essentially why they were invented... to be more efficient killing tools than pointy or blunt objects. Plus, many places regulate what kinds of pointy objects you can own or carry around on your person because they are also killing tools.

Don't like guns..? It's OK..but take a day and go to the gun range. Get all the instructions and the go shoot a couple rounds. Once you get an understanding and appreciation for it your fear of them go right out the window. My wife was the same way until she went skeet shooting.

LOL, it's not because I fear them... just that they will ruin us as they advance.
