Are Blood Transfusions Really Life Saving?

Jenny Collins

Do you believe upbringing has no influence on a child by the time they are 12?
Yes, I was brought up by dysfunctional parents and no religion was instilled in me! I was not raised to be a JW, so I thought for myself! I do believe that upbringing can influence people in bad ways, like being spoon fed evolution and atheism or false beliefs! However, what about being raised JW should influence someone to misinterpret life? Nothing! I believe it is correct, you don't! We are all influenced by the way we were raised, some are raised to think critically others not! What makes the way you were raised to think, better than one somebody else was taught! It is all subjective

We don't

abstain from blood because it is forbidden in Leviticus! Have you been following what I have been saying here? We follow Acts which restates that Christians are not supposed to take blood either
Where does Leviticus mention or allude to blood transfusions, exactly?

And I posted a Christian site saying that idea is incorrect. The sentence is a whole thought, - talking about Pagan religious practices. Read the whole book.

I really believe Acts is talking about eating the blood, which most JW's do, how many like a rare steak, if you wanted to be so stringent in your beliefs about blood then why not be a vegetarian ?.

Whatever "Christian site" you posted from is not our brand of "Christianity" Why are you sourcing a different religion to prove something to us?

Are you serious?

I was brought up by dysfunctional parents and no religion was instilled in me!
So you think that because YOU were born in a dysfunctional family and had no religion instilled in you, it necessarily means ALL children are in roughly the same boat and aren't influenced by their parents or the environment in which they were raised?

I was not raised to be a JW, so I thought for myself!
Not necessarily. You're still influence by environment and society, and the possibility of personal delusion which can rob you of real objectivity. But I'll just take you at your word for now.

I do believe that upbringing can influence people in bad ways, like being spoon fed evolution and atheism or false beliefs!
In other words, when people are taught things that you don't agree with, it's bad.

However, what about being raised JW should influence someone to misinterpret life? Nothing!
I've already exposed that the very video Deeje used in the OP is misrepresentative. Do you believe it is appropriate to lie in order to protect a belief? Is that something JWs are taught is right to do?

I believe it is correct, you don't! We are all influenced by the way we were raised, some are raised to think critically others not! What makes the way you were raised to think, better than one somebody else was taught! It is all subjective
If it's all subjective, then you have no basis to assume anything about blood transfusions. Like it or not, it is not a matter of opinion that blood transfusions save lives. It is also not a matter of opinion that children have DIED because their JW parents refused for them to receive transfusions.

But, hey, it's all just subjective, right?

Leviticus says not to eat blood! Transfusions didn't exist back then! We do not abstain from blood because of what the Mosaic Law told the Israelites to do, that Law was lifted! We do not take transfusions because it was restated for Christians "continue to abstain from blood"

Old Testament Law forbid Hebrews from eating blood! New Testament told Christians not to eat blood! We do not say no to transfusions because of the Mosaic Law, but because the same command is also given to Christians! The Mosaic Law has lots of commands, not to mix fabrics, or eat shellfish! Christians can do those things! The Mosiac Law says not to eat blood! We have to abstain from blood not because the Mosaic Law said so, but because it was reiterated for Christians! Look at it this was: Say you live in a country that is under a certain regime and it has laws! Another takes over! You are not under the law of the old government but the new government may implement some of the same prohibitions!

As shown the Jews themselves have said you are incorrect in your interpretation, - as they can have transfusions.

So obviously Acts is NOT "implementing some of the same prohibitions!"

As shown by the Christian site I quoted, the Acts verse is about not participating in idolatrous pagan religious acts. Read the whole book. It has nothing to do with eating blood outside that context, - and obviously can't be extended thousands of years to include medical blood transfusions.

I am confused as to my sharing that I grew up in a dysfunction home makes you think I am comparing myself to other families! Please tell me about what I said there, that makes you interpret it this way! I was not aware that telling you the way I was raised was some claim about how others were raised

So it says not to EAT blood, but doesn't mention transfusions?

So where is the Biblical basis to refrain from transfusions?

Children are raised with or without teachings, and some go with what their parents taught them, some don't! Many variables!

Acts 15 forget the verse, easy enough to find, says that we are to abstain from blood! The word can correctly be rendered abstain which means avoid, or some Bibles simply say eat! It is still consuming blood whether you take it into your veins or mouth

I asked you "Do you believe upbringing has no influence on a child by the time they are 12?", and you answered "Yes, I was brought up by dysfunctional parents and no religion was instilled in me!"

In other words, you're implying that because this situation happened to you, it is necessarily something that applies to the upbringing of all other children. If it isn't, then why on earth did you even bring it up when asked a question about ALL 12 year olds?

Please tell me about what I said there, that makes you interpret it this way! I was not aware that telling you the way I was raised was some claim about how others were raised
It was extremely clear in the question. Here it is again:

"Do you believe upbringing has no influence on a child by the time they are 12?"

If you are an atheist, then it is hopeless to convince you, this is an issue of your lack of belief in God, but oddly you are trying to explain the Bible to me and what it means, but you confess you don't even believe it

I am Agnostic.

I do not have to believe in the Bible to logically debate the meaning of verses within it, especially in context to the time and culture, and Jewish understanding of THEIR texts.

I was raised Christian, and studied the Bible, Comparative Religion, and Archaeology.

You keep bringing up Jewish interpretation! We are NOT Jews! I don't care how a Jew interprets something! Nor do Jews care about how a J Witness interprets something! You aren't following the interpretations of my religion, but you think I have to believe what a Jew thinks

So no part of the Bible specifies that transfusions are to be refused, unless you choose to interpret "eat" as "transfuse" for no reason?

I studied the Bible too! For 40 years! If you are agnostic, you aren't dismissing the Bible either
