Are Jehovah's Witnesses False Prophets?

I think they are very sincere in their beliefs, no matter how erroneous they may be, and are basically good people. But then again, I feel this way about all religions. I too was raised a witness for a good portion of my life (thank goodness I got out) but it left me with such a huge spiritual hole to fill, it made me feel like the Most High had nothing to do with the average person, like you couldn't have a personal relationship with him unless you were anointed or on the stage giving a talk (till this day I still don't understand how the anointed knew they were anointed.)

Deuteronomy 18:20

But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.”

The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society is notorious for trying to predict dates for the end of the world, from what I've heard they have stopped doing this as of late, but I'm not sure if that absolves them of their past "predictions". The last time they did this was in 1975.

Why are you bringing up these ancient threads?

Why not start a new one with whatever you actually want to discuss?

Yes, they deny the Trinity which is a true doctrine and has been believed since the earliest of times. Even Jesus Himself told us to baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

That is not why. If they are false prophets it is because they claim to be the only ones who can know The Bible and it's meaning. They have been wrong about many things that The Bible says which leads me to believe they are wrong about their exclusive interpretation of it. Their claim is false.

You mean compared to all the other false prophets in this world? Then, no.

But on the other hand, yes. But then again, so are most teachers of faith or non-faith false prophets. But if the question is "Does God then condemn them for their actions?" my answer would be I really do not think so. I think God is far, far more merciful than most Christian dare to believe. Too many Christians want to be in this special club with great privileges not given to any others.

Of course that is nonsense. Does not the Bible say that prostitutes and tax collectors will be allowed into the kingdom long before those reading and believing will be allowed in? Is that not real food for thought?

Of course me being a Catholic, I am perfectly at home with a prostitute or drug addict or a Buddhist or an atheist getting in there before me. "To whom more has been given, more will be required."

Which embarks on the doctrine of purgatory where God's mercy and justice are made perfect. Where Catholics and protestants clash.

No, I do not recommend JW to anybody, but neither do I judge them or discount their many acts of charity.

Actually there were a lot of early Christians that did not believe Jesus was God/trinity.

No babies were baptized though.

To be fair, baptizing babies is extremely against doctrine and spirit of baptism.

I'm not convinced that they classify as "prophets."

What is your definition of prophet?

This is what I think prophet means
A person regarded as an inspired teacher or proclaimer of the will of God:

They regard themselves as proclaimers of the will of God.

Biblically, a prophet is one who is authorized to speak for God. AFAIK, JWs are not "authorized," except by their own assertion.

LOL. So maybe from your pov there are no "false" prophets.

Matthew 7:15
Beware of false prophets which come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

http://biblesuite.com/greek/5578.htm one who in God's name teaches what is false.

Not following.

He said they are not prophets because prophet means from God and they are not from God in his opinion. So it follows in some people's brand of English that there can't be false prophets because all prophets are true. See?

I am debating that. Fake meat exists. It is something that looks and feels and tastes kind of like meat (or tries to :D) but is not really meat.

Thats pretty much what fake is all about.

A fake something is not a real fomr of said something, so it is a real fake something.

Again: A prophet has to be "authorized." No one has "authorized" the JWs. Therefore, they are not prophets, false or otherwise.
