atheism and fear of death

The soul is eternal yes, but the body die. Our real self is the soul. Or ego/personality and body is not our real selfI don't die. In my true nature I am eternal.

Well, that is simple. I believe that when I die, I am no more, so death as such is nothing to fear.

I know that if I am lucky, I will have 3 score years and 10 on this earth, Hopefully a bit more as I'm nearly there now!
Where was I in 1950? Well, I wasn't born, so nobody knew me and I hadn't any consciousness. In 2050, when I'm dead, it'll be the same with one major difference ... my friends, children, grandchildren and maybe great grandchildren will hopefully remember me. They'll perhaps get out photos and talk about me.
I'm not looking forward to death but have accepted that when my time comes and my body gives up, I've been lucky in that I was born.

How can you know what it was like before you were born? Maybe you were concious before you were conceived? maybe you were in a different dimension than you are in now? that God does not want us to remember how it was before we were born?
Yes, the body will die, just as the car I drive will die. But I am no more the body than I am the car. When the car dies, I will either get another car or I will just walk.
For me, "I" doesn't point to the body.

Well, if the uinverse is lawlike and orderly, we can infer about the past and treat it as one version of knowledge.

I don't. Only because I/we know the natural universe is capable of life, its not far fetched to surmise it can certainly happen over and over under the proper conditions.
After all we are atoms.
I have no fear of death, we all die, it's a fact of life.
The first law of thermodynamics tells me that the atoms that make up my body will be reused*. I am content with that
* In that way we are all made of dead people.

How do you know what it is like after death?
You are putting your faith into what you 'priests' are telling you. I don't believe those people, and believe my life will end when I die. I accept that.
Just the end of life - and hence no particular fear (had enough pain) but perhaps some regrets, as to what I might have accomplished and what I might have missed and what a different life I might have had. What exactly am I supposed to fear? Even all the threats of eternal punishment just seem as something more to get to grips with - but mostly seem the projections of humans minds and being rather obvious.
How do you feel about the possibility of there being nothing after death?
Personally, I consider belief in an afterlife to be straight up denial of death.
Honestly, fear of death isn't really something I deal with that much.

I live in Sweden, an apatheistic country and worked at a retirement home for a while. Those who were deeply religious and were in the last days of their lives were the ones that were the most scared of death. I don't know why. Maybe afraid of judgement?
Personally, like many other atheists, I believe I will just become a blank slate. There will be now more "I". I don't have a fear of death. If it happens it happens, but I will try to avoid it.

What fear?
Death is unavoidable so it is pointless to worry about it. I also think life is challenging and death is a release from the challenge. As I get older the challenges of life inspire me less and less.
