Atheist by birth?

Violet.
The a'thiest label is a polite way of saying,
I'm not interested in your (god) schpeil.

I often tell people I am a'political.
I am, of course,
but also it gives the signal,
no, I don't want to discuss politics with you.

Babies don't have a need to discuss either politics or religion.
They are also a'sexual.
(which is why there are no baby sized condoms)

Soooo....

Babies aren't able to believe or disbelieve a concept like God, but we still need to assign them a title because at some point they will believe or disbelieve as they learn and grow and because we have a need to assign them a title?

I'd re-read the thread, but I'm going cross-eyed.

excellent reply really.

At some point statistically most children are labeled a theist.

Athiest is almost a non title though.

I have never seen a qualfier for a atheist that one must first know theism and then discount it.

Yes, we do. We have democrats, communists, socialists, capitalists, liberals, conservatives, feminists, mysogynists, post-modernists...

heck, pick any one off the list.

Theism isn't a philosophy is it? Those certainly are labels though. We don't have labels to say whether someone believes in aliens, monsters, fairies, unicorns, supernatural, science, planets, rainbows or the color red. I meant more specific to belief in somethings existence.

There is implicit and explicit atheism. Implicit atheism, are those who have never heard of the concept of a deity, therefor cannot believe in the deities existence. And explicit atheists are those who have heard of a concept of a diety and reject the concept as irrational.

A new born baby could be categorized as an implicit atheist.
I guess you could fit dogs and rocks into this category as well :)

I suppose this is generally how I would describe it, though, due to my interpretation of the word as an informed conclusion.
