Atheist trying to convert Theist!

Not inherently dangerous, as in, inherently threatening to one's safety or life. So, yes.
Any given belief a theist has may not be inherently dangerous, but I never said that it was. The position that a theist takes, belief despite or in the face of evidence, is inherently dangerous. If a person takes no consideration for evidence, or the lack there of, for a belief then nothing can constrain their actions. Do you argue that it is otherwise?
If every single theist (or at least the vast majority) was out to kill every one who had even a slightly different idea of God. Nothing in my experience is indicative of this being the case. I, myself, am a theist, but I'm also a pacifist, and tolerant of opposing viewpoints; one of my best friends is an atheist, and my girlfriend has completely different beliefs than I do.
So the evidence you require that theism is inherently dangerous is that -every- theist has to be out to kill someone? So was pre-1930's Austro-German antisemitism not inherently dangerous because not -every- antisemitic Austro-German was going to go out and join the SS? (FYI it's not a Godwin if the comparison is actually relevant.)

When it comes to intellectual things like the existence of a spirit dimension it is hard to make the journey of discovery with feelings which are made to deal with other people, find happiness, and make life decisions, but are not good at discovering great mysteries of the cosmos. Try discovering the real relationship between matter and energy with an emotion such as say ... empathy. These sort of issues are best forged aheady with science, analysis, reason, and deep thought. Sure we will have feelings about our opinions, but reason will rule, hopefully.
Reason only rules when people allow it to. Studying or trying to understand the cosmos is something that people have been trying to do for eons.

I have noticed lately that a lot of the atheist on this forum board try to convert theist over to atheism. Usually it is the other way around and atheist are accusing the theist of converting the atheist into believing something other than the typical nonsense that gets spewed across the forums.

- So my question to atheist is why do you insist on converting good religious people over with your demonic style tactics?
Just what "demonic style tactics" are you referring to?

Yes.

1. If what you say is true, then theists must be wild and out of control. Obviously, this is not the case.

2. I call non sequitor on your argument. The presence of a belief in God has nothing to do with restraining actions.

So the evidence you require that theism is inherently dangerous is that -every- theist has to be out to kill someone? False analogy.

Theism is simply a belief in some kind of God-concept. That's it. What you described is the belief that a certain type of person needs to be wiped off the face of the earth. I fail to see how they are even remotely similar.

BTW, what's a Godwin?

Oh, and welcome to the forums!

The understanding of god and how god originated into the human species. Not the monkey species.

...WHAT!?!?!!?

What are you even talking about? What do monkeys have to do with anything? How is an understanding of God, and how God originated into the human species (whatever that even means) related to whether or not a god is true or false?

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
People cannot rely on their brain for everything. That is about the dumbest thing I have ever herd.

That response is actually quite funny to read. :biglaugh:

You have absolutely no choice but to rely on your brain for everything.
Not dumb but factual in every aspect.

That three pound lump of meat between your ears and the usage of it.... well, I'm afraid that your your totally stuck with it. No refunds.

No choice on that one.

You act as if emotion and thought always have to be fighting each other. I say however that they often agree on many things. I have a feeling that drives me to seek truth, but this emotion is not the one that actually seeks truth or formulates my ideas and arguments. Thought and analysis are the ones that seek truth, emotion only encourages them.

Sometimes I feel like ignoring an opposing argument because by admitting I was wrong about it would make me lose face, however my intellectual and emotional conviction to seek truth overpowers it most of the time. I do admit there have been instances where these have failed.

I have noticed that you have never made any original arguments yourself. All you do is critique the arguments of others. You have ignored arguments that I have successfully made that are actually more to the point than the ones you are focusing on. I think that I have proven my point that argument can be made for the reason of convincing.

My brain rarely functions it only operates when i tell it to.

That's not possible. If your brain doesn't function, you wouldn't be alive. If your brain doesn't operate, your heart wouldn't pump, your muscles (and therefore you) wouldn't move, you wouldn't see, hear, or use any of your senses, etc.

In short, you'd be dead.

It depends on the type of function.
The brain obviously is programmed for life that doesn't mean it is programmed for survival. That is something you program it too understand and you accumulate that information over time based on experience.

And ALL of that experience and information is stored in the brain. You speak of programming the brain, but you use the brain to program it.

Even your very emotions are dependent on specific brain functions.

If the soul exists, the brain is where it would have to be located.
