Sorry, 'the end of the world as we know it.' (I was trying to make a joke...however weak. Hy husband laughs at my jokes, at least, I think he's laughing at the jokes...)

R.E.M= Rapture Event Music?! :eek:

If there were a god, I don't think he'd send a book. Consider that most of the people who ever lived before the last few centuries were illiterate, and a substantial minority of people still are. Consider that revelation is, as somebody said, only a revelation to the person who receives it. To everybody else, it's hearsay. What good is a book?

If there were a god, and he wanted people to know about him and his will, he'd have someplace people could go and meet him and talk to him. Maybe travel around the world as the kings of England used to travel around England, holding court in different places at different times. People could come and meet him and talk to him; since he's god, he wouldn't have any trouble talking to lots of people at once. People could say, "How do I know you're really god, and not just some guy?" And god could do amazing things to show that he really was god, or at least somebody so amazing that he might as well be god.

Then, if he wrote a book, people could say, "God, did you really write this book?" And he could say, "Yes, I really wrote it. But Chapter 27, now, don't take that literally. It's an analogy; I was just trying to make a point, see?"

But most likely, he wouldn't write a book. Most likely he'd say things like:
 • The kingdom of god is within you.
 • That which is lost, you must seek in your own heart.
 • The law of god is written on every heart.
 • They are seducers, who draw your minds out from the teachings within you.
 • The way that can be told is not the eternal Way. The name that can be named is not the eternal Name.
 • Peace comes from within; do not seek it without.
Doubtless he'd also remind people of the Golden Rule, which all religions teach but few religionists follow. What else is there that he'd really need to say? Why should God need a book?

Gosh, this idea of God coming to earth in a way we can understand, to teach us that love is the way, the kingdom is within...it all sounds so compelling, and hauntingly familiar.

For the record, I did laugh at this...

I'm guessing MB would want God to stick around longer than just a few years...;)
Unless, of course, you already know everything you need to know from god. Every religion teaches you everything you need to know, plus a lot of other crap. You don't need the other crap. :D

Everything you need to know, the Spider Grandmother told you: "Don't going around hurting each other. Try to understand things."

No need for a book, and no need, really, for a face to face meeting with god.

Violet.
everything is God's.
every book is God's.
God speaks in everything.
(what he's saying of course
rather depends on- Who U R.)

When I was a Christian, I used to ask biblical inerrantists how come, if it's so important to have an infallible book, Jesus never wrote a book? (And how come, for that matter, neither Muhammad nor Sakyamuni ever wrote a book?) People only need sacred texts when they've lost touch with the sacred.

Such uncommon common sense!

The System will not let me frubal you. :sad4:

This is true. If there is a God and he wanted to meet us....he'd come over for a beer and a Duck football game. They are doing so well even God is taking note.

Jesus (as accounted within Scripture) was the penultimate politician. He would never "admit" that He was G-O-D. He was vague in his claims. He utilized "metaphors" and anecdotal stories to "preach" His Word. Essentially, Jesus argued that He was so purposefully vague and quizzical, so as to confound both His "enemies" and all doubters/skeptics/unbelievers.

Fine with me...but that doesn't strike me as a particularly compelling method by which to "sell" either an idea...or "eternal salvation".

Still..."The Jesus Diaries" would make for an inevitable and prime #1 spot on the NY Times Bestseller list...

...and even Larry King might convert...

Perfect.
God, Wonder, the Profound...
is found in life.
Life ITSELF is sacred.
God IS Life.
God is no more or less here,
or there, or anywhere else.
He is everywhere,
He is IN everything,
He IS everything.
We touch and know the "sacred"...
in the "illumination" of the ordinary.

I'll have to frubal you in spirit this time.

The Bible reads like a book that was written by humans containing very human angst. There appears to be absolutely nothing in the documents that make up that book, which have any divine intelligence!
