Atheists: What if?

...If rich people like sitting on big wads of cash they'll answer to Jesus for it, but if they give truckloads away that's fine..
Where does Jesus say "walk" from losers?...
I don't think they [rich people] are really worried to answer to Jesus..

Here ya go, don't hang with losers-
Jesus said:-"If any place will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave, as a testimony against them" (Mark 6:11)

As for rich people they're probably worried krapless and are trying to put on a brave face.

You just said that all atheism together has in common a rejection of theism.

That's not nothing, and it is of consequence.

Of course...but I never said atheists had nothing in common.
Not did I say rejection of theism is without consequence.

My point really was that atheism is the opposite of theism. Not Christianity. Not Islam. Not Paganism.

And just like there are certain correlations between theists, but a lot of differences, the same applies to atheists. The difference, in my opinion, is that people commonly seem to treat atheism on a list that goes something like this;

Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Atheist.

When in fact the list is Theist, Atheist.

(Note, those list are obviously not exhaustive, merely illustrative)

That doesn't say that at all....

Grumpy Old Man
What if you witnessed undeniable proof God exists. Would you hide it?

The subjective side of my nature's curiosity would overwhelm me with wonder initially, but my objective side would then kick in and analyse whether or not I had simply been deluded. Having passed that test as a logical person and a scientist I would have to accept it, and if required convey what I had observed as an independent witness. I would leave the term PROOF to a panel of experts who's group assessment would guide me as to whether it was true or false. As a scientist and teacher I always record what I observe not what I predict.

Cheers

You can sit down for tea and crumpets with losers if you like mate, but include me out..:)
Some of these verses also apply to phoney christians and cultists, we should steer well clear of them too-

"He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm" (Proverbs 13:20)
"Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?" (2 Cor 6:14)
"Bad company corrupts good character" (1 Cor 15:33)
"Keep away from profane babblers" (1 Tim 6:20/21)
"Don't sit with vain hypocritical evildoers" (Psa 26:4/5)
"Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words" (Proverbs 23:9)
"They make a noise like a dog, but thou, O Lord, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision" (Psalm 59:6)

Nice dishonest approach of avoiding the issue.

It's not rocket science, even George Washington said be careful who you hang with-
“Associate yourself with men of good quality, for ‘tis better to be alone than in bad company"- George Washington

For example, when I go shopping for groceries, I always peep through the shop window first to see who's on the checkout, and if it's a grumpy old woman or man I walk on to the next shop, and the next, til I find one that's got a sweet cheerful female on the till..:)

2 Cor 6:14 "Yoked" means working the same work. Associating is not working together so that is applied wrong.

Ps 26:4 does not mean to visit. It means; "make to abide, continue, cause to, make to dwelling, ease self, endure, establish, fail"* so that is applied wrong.

1 Timothy is a warning against the talk, not the talker. Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge so that's applied wrong

and

1 Cor 15:33 is about leaning on your own wrong understanding not other people so that is applied wrong.

You have made idle chatter into idle chatterers and bad association into people. Also I am certain you believe weeds are actual people.

These warnings you have applied to people but they are warning against welcoming into our minds the ideas that are warned against.

For these scriptures to mean people all Christianity is riding a BAD association....

....which is irony of the most diabolical kind.

And he has placed me on ignore which is a hoot!

More dishonesty, this has nothing to do with the verse or Christianity.

More dishonesty, this has nothing to do with the verse of Christianity.

Choosing who our friends are is not a command of Jesus or of the apostles. To teach that people are bad associations puts a heavy strain on anyone who tries to be a Christ follower but who must live with people considered by Christianity as "bad". I think it is better to reject the truth and the lie as I believe atheists do than it is to embrace a lie which is what (I believe) most of Chritianity does.

A god is an imaginary supernatural entity theists put in as an explanation for or answer to any problem or question they don't know the explanation for or answer to. We have an instinctive fear of the unknown. Making a god responsible gives theists an imaginary explanation and makes the unknown known. They also think they can have an influence on the situation by appealing to this god. It's just a psychological crutch helping them cope with the unknown.

So God is an adult version of an imaginary friend. Makes SOOOO much more sense now

I wish I could frubal this but I just frubaled the other post. Well said and very Christ like.

As I said earlier in this thread or another one, I know a middleaged christian street preacher who hangs with losers and his life has become a sloppy disorganised mess, he's been hauled up court twice for not paying his council tax, he's had his electric and phone cut off at times for not paying the bills, and he's got two failed marriages under his belt.
He told me that the people he hangs with "drain him of energy", but he seems drawn to them like a moth to a flame and has become a loser like them, so now I stay clear of him..:)
"If you hang around with losers, you become a loser"- Donald Trump
"He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm" (Proverbs 13:20)

Continue on, with your intellectual dishonesty and ignore viable points. Antidotal evidence is not evidence, Donald trump has nothing to do Christianity in any authoritarian sense, so you quote him for no reason, and proverbs are not from Christ, nor is it clearly in defenses of your point, but keep hiding behind verses and ignoring everything you don't like.

Mostly it is just taken way too seriously, far more than it was probably meant to.

The Bible is taken way too seriously you say. Is that what "it" in your post is? I disagree. Someone saw humankind's fall and wrote about it. Some of it is a secret called The Sacred Secret which is only for mature believers. On the other hand I think it is true and a shame that people take it literally and at face value which I am sure it wasn't meant to be understood that way.
