Atheists: What if?

I know women who wish their husbands would plan things better. Don't you? We are going on a picnic today! OK? Hell yes!

There are many men happy to let other men decide for them.
That's how it is with me (and that goes double for my younger brother), though it doesn't matter to me if the person deciding for me is male or female. All I would ask is that the decision is reasonable and well-informed.

What do you tell a woman with two black eyes?

Why bother telling her ? Its obvious she didn't listen the first two times

Ok ok. Don't shoot. Please don't report me. Just whistling passed the graveyard

That scenario is one of attempting to fit to a preconception. It does not look very realistic to me. Also, it seems to take as a premise that we have some sort of powerful free-acting essence.

In practice, people have very limited ethical spaces, and suffer a lot of pressure to keep acting inside them.

That looks like a good argument against the existence of such a God. It is, in fact, the Argument From Evil, if I am not mistaken.

Your restrictions appear self imposed.
Your fault.

Or is someone twisting your arm and forcing you to make denial of God?

If my husband ordered me off forum, I'd be fine with that. Some things I am not OK with. It is why a woman should be free to choose her mate. I chose well.

If I ordered my wife to...well...anything...I don't think I'd like the outcome.
Big ticket items (eg. house or car purchase) we make always make together, and if anything she defers very slightly to me (I'm better with numbers, and am kinda a car buff) but most day to day stuff, she's definitely the driver. She's just a more forceful personality than I am, which is something I love about her. Also drives me nuts on occasion. She would say similar things about my laid-backness...(yeah, I know...not a real word...lol)

End of the day you need an effective partnership that works and is agreed by both parties. Different personality types prefer different dynamics I reckon, but gender is a poor way to determine this.

My husband includes me in every major decision to "always make it together" and in his imagination he believes we ARE making it together. But funnny thing is every time we settle on his choose. You know what I mean?;) He doesn't know....so please don't tell. There is a funny scene in My Big Fat Greek Wedding were the mother gets the father to choose the daughter's way without him knowing.

I have so much respect for agnostics in this world because at least they have the humbleness to say "I really don't know". Many atheists are just as dogmatic as certain religious fundamentalists who say "I know for certain just because I do".

Funnily enough few if any of the atheists here ever seem to take a position of certainty.

"Funnily enough few if any of the atheists here ever seem to take a position of certainty."

Then I applaud them, but would have to ask them why they don't refer to themselves as agnostic instead.

Because atheism is essentially agnostic. Most I know identify as agnostic atheists, myself included. Why they do not identify as agnostic INSTEAD is simply that atheism and agnosticism are not mutually exclusive.

I don't know how to imagine anything to label "God" and know of no reason to believe anybody can either. All they can do is say or write "God". "God" is just a meaningless word like "blah".

Well that was why I was asking for clarification.

What if you witnessed undeniable proof God exists. Would you hide it?

Yes, absolutely I would hide it, as it would be a death sentence. Considering that there are countless versions of God both historically and contemporary, we can assume that if an individual could prove the existence of God, it could only be one specific version of God. Regardless of which version was proven to exist, it would only satisfy a minority of humankind.
It may be unfair to say that all religious persons would react violently to proof that their version of God does not exist but many would. Many more would do all in their power to discredit such proof, while the person providing the proof would have to spend the remainder of their life in hiding.

Oh ok, I didn't know that. Thanks!
