We do not know the exact date that jesus died. Everyone in this world just thought of a big celebration. They created a Santa for Christmas, a bunny for easter and a tooth fairy. So, in all we are lying to our children making them believe what is not true. We are followers....

We do not even know if Jesus ever lived.

Whether you believe Jesus ever lived or not or that the 25th Dec is'nt his real birth date and xmas trees are pagan as well as mistletoe, yule logs etc this date does bring people toghether.
Whether you are an athiest, pagan etc you get to spend time with people you love and some you don't get on with aswell, but it does the trick and se people who are not so nice normally become quite convivial so well done Jesus and happy new year everyone.

Interesting, could you explain to me one thing, how do you consider yourself being a Christian, if Christmas is'nt about Christ.

I don't think celebrating an originally pagan holiday which is now used by us to commemorate the birth of Jesus (which isn't actually his birthday) makes you Christian. I think believing in Him does.

These days it's becoming harder and harder to see the good in Xmas, because unfortunately it is based upon false pretenses. Yes, the basic context is about giving, but this has been taken out of context, and bastardized into a rat race of who can accumulate the most things with the winner being the one with the biggest pile of stuff. All for the good of the economy, yes that economy base on mountains of credit that has come tumbling down around us.

On that happy note - Merry Xmas, and happy New Year.

For me, Christiam is not much about Jesus, but more about sales and MONEY!
For corporations perhaps..

But when you would give a present to your child (you don't have any, I know..:D)would you do that because it equals an amount of money, or because of the smile your child will get while unpacking?
There is nothing wrong with giving presents. And there is also nothing wrong for a company to use such a holiday to boost their sales..

I,have just put my tree up,lights baubles the whole works and its a cheery sight, hey whats wrong with Christmas.
Neat - I finished the lights on the house last week, and the tree went up yesterday.

We cheat, though: we've got a small artificial tree, so we don't take the decorations off it after Christmas. We just throw a big plastic bag over it and put the whole she-bang in the basement. That way, the next year, we just pull the tree out, take the bag off, and voila! It's all done. :D

I was thinking of how many things to do with Xmas are Pagan, the tree is German Pagan,Mistletoe Druid,Holly and Ivy,Yule log Pagan, what else.
I love National Lampoons Christmas and Movies like that with a few beers, mulled wine and some Brandy.
The downside of Christmas for me is my wife shops for England and has spent 3 evenings wrapping presents and this equates to money BAA HUMBUG!!!!!

I think this may point to one of the reasons for the difference in the calendar for Orthodox Christian denominations: by having their Christmas 12 days after everyone else's, they can buy all their presents cheap at the Boxing Day sales. :D

Oh, i didn't mean it in a bad way. It is a great thing. For me it is a time to get things cheaper, a time which has a magic spirit...

It being about sales and money is a good thing. I get things i like :) I love smiling, just like you described there :)
