I feel that the holiday is largely materialistic and secular at that. Black friday is secular.

I treat it as family & friends day. I do the tree thing open presents. The tree has a bow at the top instead of a star or angel.

same here, i celebrate the friends and family in my life rather than the religious aspect of it. its a good reason to get together and be thankful for the people around me. many of them celebrate it for the religious reasons which is cool with me, i have nothing against that at all

You know, I'm a Christian, and Christmas has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus to me. It's not a religious holiday for my family, either. The reason we celebrate Christmas is to be together and get cool presents.

I don't think getting another tie again to being "cool", especially when I don't even wear one. :(

What do they do? Atheist mostly do the same thing they did on prom night when they where in high school. They stay home all alone warming up the frozen spitting rabbit if you know what I mean

No. I did that after Debbie refused the "after-dance dance" with me.

Any way, I have this new tradition where I cook the family ham and some various venison.

Most people I know celebrate Christmas whether they're religious or not.

So on Christmas, I celebrate commercialism or the winter solstice or generic winter holiday or whatever it is these days by doing things I feel obliged to do, like visit family. I buy presents for a few kids, spend time with my bf, and visit family. At work we do secret santa presents. I don't decorate anything but I enjoy seeing a nice decorated tree at the home of a family member. Usually good smells from candles and such as well.

I am not atheist now, but my mother was one when I was a child. Even then, we put up a tree and had presents. We even sang Christmas carols- both religious and non-religious.

I have a 5 year old, a tree and presents are in order.

I love the smiles and hugs I get after the presents are opened

Right. I'm Atheist but the wife isn't. Neither are my kids, my nieces and nephews or my grand child. They're all theist so my wife put up the tree and the whole house is decorated. I'll be taking pictures while friends and family open presents. We all sit down to dinner. I internally symbolize Baby Jesus Day the way I view Thanksgiving. It's another opportunity to be amongst friends and family and enjoy their company.....

Until they start breaking my stuff on ("accident") drink up all my wine, liquor and yes.....drink up all my Yenglings....then it's time for them to get the (H.E..double hockey sticks) out of my house.

Then after the wife and I clean up and complain....we get together and make plans to do it all over again for next Xmas.....

:help:....We're insane..!!

I celebrate Christmas with my family even though we're all athiests or agnostics. It's the time of year that companies allow us or force us to take time off, so we've made it tradition to enjoy each other's company even more with festive music, food, drinks and especially gifts. Our kids love that part and I love just seeing my family whole again.

Probably not the same Christmas that religious folks imagine but we for what ever reasons call it by the same name.

Tommorow is for many a time to celebrate Jesuses birthday my quetion is,what do you do on christmas day if you are an athiest.
And if you are an athiest and your partner is a christian and wants to celebrate it do you just go along with it to keep the peace.

Best wishes for the festive season i am going to PARTY big time.

For us, Christmas has nothing to do with Jesus' birthday, we celebrate Christmas with family, a tree, gifts, food, but in a non religious way. Christians think they own Christmas but they don't.
