Avatars — the meaning behind yours;

Hey there, folks. I think I encountered a thread a while back on this forum that asked the meaning behind our chosen usernames. Well I’d like to ask why you picked your current avatar, and what it means to you.

Mine comes from a Magic: the Gathering game release called Rise of the Eldrazi. It features the awakening of hideous monstrosities that consume everything. Entities that powerful beings trapped in a dormant state, and these creatures ended up as distant memories by the people who followed, who worshipped them as gods.

It does smack of Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos, but I use the symbol here because I like the idea of Jesus, allah, etc. returning to us and turning out to be gigantic monsters intent on consuming everyone in existence:thud:.

My avatar is of a Saami (Lapp) shaman (the 'noaidi') holding a drum in one hand and a beater in the other. I lived in Finland for a few years and got heavily into the idea of Nordic shamanism as a way of connecting with Nature (despite being an atheist). I also play the bodhran, which resembles the frame drum being held by the man. I've also got the symbol tattooed on my arm.

Do I need to say what mine is or the obvious significance of it? Heru-sa-Aset (Horus), the eternal king of Egypt forever.

My avatar is me, croak, the raven. I'm not a frog; ravens croak, too.

So there, you get the meaning behind my avatar AND my username!

Yes, indeed. Ravens croak. I've often spent some time in graveyards listening to the ravens croak. Wonderful sound. I've also found that ravens can be quite tolerant of humans.

You hear us more often than you see us. And crows are a lot more tolerant; we prefer some privacy.

I like beer. I like brewing beer... so I went by the username Lambicus on another forum. My avatar was a lambicus Brettanomyces yeast particle.

One year, we did "Hallowe'en costumes" for our avatars. Mine went as a cryptosporidium and I kinda took a liking to it.

Kathryn, that's you? Wow...

My username and Avatar go together. I'm a Demonic Kitten so obviously I would be a bad kitty ^_^

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
I liked the road avatar in that a path is discernible, but there are no real landmarks or signs to go by that identifies it. Just a path.

I'm angry.
I'm a groundskeeper.
I'm Scottish (partly).
I'm older than Futurama.
I'm prone to non sequiturs.
And I'm built like a piece of gristle.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Oh let's PLEASE dress our avatars up for Halloween! Starting October 1!

Demonic Kitty - you know those pictures we take of ourselves holding the camera up above us are nearly always flattering! That's why they're all over Facebook I guess...

My avatar features me with a snarky grin and a fake rose.

The meaning behind it... uhhhhhhh...

What's that over there?!?!

That snarky grin and fake rose are cute though.

My avatar has a snarky grin and fake hair color. Come to think of it, I have no idea WHAT color my hair really is.

That is seriously awesome, I really like that. Also, you can get in touch with nature in a variety of ways. I see it as whatever works for you (within reason, of course ;)).

I remember the old American Football cheerleader chant: “There is only ONE god, He is the Sun god, Ra Ra Ra!”

Kathryn, that's you? Wow...
That was my thought too! And yes, Kathryn, there is to me a certain strong–mindedness in using your own self as your avatar, as opposed to some alter ego. Right on! Love your lipstick, by the way.

My username and Avatar go together. I'm a Demonic Kitten so obviously I would be a bad kitty ^_^
Haha, nice! However, that doesn’t necessarily go together. Dante from Devil May Cry is a Demon (½, his mother was a full–blooded human), but he is a good kitty.

Loving it. The rose is a particularly cool addition. You’re very pretty too, though you must obviously know that.

Hey everyone, I agree — I think it’s a great idea to have a Halloween dressup month for our avatars. Awesome!
