I'm forgetting some others because they have weird names. They're either lagers, ales or IPA's that a friend has shared with me. He tends to go many of his from Whole Foods because they have a huge selection not normally found at a local market. My favourite is Yengling though.

I like yuengling, its a good cheap beer. I also notice that some bottles taste different than others. I have heard this is because of differences in location of production. I have noticed with both bottles and tap that some brews have more hoppiness in them than others. The more hoppy ones taste a hell of a lot better IMO.
Speaking of hoppiness: Hopsecutioner, anyone? Terrapin makes awesome beers.

Fyne Ales is a great experimental brewer. Just had some Kellaa, a blond ale brewed with a single hop going under the memorable name of 05256. Full of tropical fruit flavour. How's that, desideraht??!
Hmm, I think I will by myself a nice beer for my birthday. Nice beer is a good birthday present to self and a good excuse to spend money that I shouldn't spend

You can find Terrapin beers in nice grocery stores and places that have specialty beers; it's a craft beer. Hopsecutioner is a very nice IPA.
Their purple haze and strawberry beers are drool worthy. Although, definitely more of a snack beer than one to drink with a meal.
This just reminded me that I wanted to try their Turbodog next. It sounds delicious-- I love dark browns, and plus, the name is awesome.

Yes! I was just about to mention Turbodog before I read your last line. I have had Purple Haze and Turbodog. Purple haze is cool, not something I would drink all the time; still a pretty good beer. Turbodog is excellent. It's heavy and dark and has tastes of coffee and dark chocolate. Turbodog is what I call a "food beer", which means it has enough flavor and gravity that you can have only one or two of them on their own and practically have a meal

That reminds me, I have been told that Heineken is basically the Pabst Blue Ribbon of Europe (basically, the cheap, crappy beer). Is there any truth to this statement?

It is true, it is crappy beer!
I suppose beers have a longer heritage and hence range in Europe (particularly northern, the south is more wine), but the UK has been reinvigorated in the last decade by the experimentalism of the American craft beers. (American style IPA is particularly popular.)
